Coravin fun - Bordeaux (My place, Burwood): From Coravin. Medium minus intensity aromas of cream, plums, brambles, baking spices, a little hight toned blackcurrant, biscuit, earth, sous bois with time. In the mouth it's juicy with savoury, slightly bitter, brambly fruit and drying, coarse flour textured tannins that have a leathery underpin. Touch of herbaceous hardness here as well. All travel long. Mmm.

Typical floral Margaux nose. On the palate the famous Margaux elegance. Fine texture, all kind of ripe berries and wonderful balance. The medium- Labegorce ends in a medium + finish. This wine delivers great pleasure. The 2011 Labegorce is a big surprise.

Focused black currant, bitter chocolate, earth, smoke, and sweet toast on the nose. Medium-full bodied with solid dark berry fruit coupled to a precise minerality; tannins still have a good presence and the length is very good. 5/5

Coravin fun - Bordeaux and Mosel (My place, Kent Street): from Coravin. A little graphite/pencil shaving note accompanies muted blackcurrant, touch of red plum, sweet spice, cream and cedar in support. It's a little sour and bitter on the palate, olive joins the wild blackcurrant, plenty of drying textured offers a leathery sensation. Hmm.

Serving at 13°C, deep red ( deeper than 2013 Kirwan and 2014 prieure lichine). Nice and strong aroma upon open. Balance fruits with meaty bitterness. Tannin a bit tight. Medium finish.

Bright red, okay notes upon open, fruit aroma start emerge after about 30 min. A bit more red fruit then black with graphite, with slight earthy. Firm tannin are not coarse, but may still room for integration. Finish is a bit short.
Disappointing. Black fruited and maybe a little overdone with coarse dusty tannin. Brutish and lacking elegance. Should be bettter at this price. Nothing like the 14 or 15.

Deep red color wine with light tannin, some dark cherry notes, subtle residual sugar notes and oak is really discret. Well balanced with good drinkability.

Ok intensity on the nose, notes of blackcurrant, plum, cherry, cedar, cigar. Palate shows high tannin, high acid, medium length of finish, notes of blackcurrant, plum, cigar, clove, coffee, pencil shaving. Not a bad budget Margaux.

Lovely. I've liked Labegorce for some years now and the 2011 has the quality I expect from them.
Sure, 2011 doesn't get much love in the trade. But every 2011 I've had has impressed me. There's enough money now in the upper echelons of Bdx that I don't see 'em making bad wines any more. 2011's prices are a fine bargain (within the context of Bdx) and I am buying more of them.

Earth, oak and blackberries in the nose lead to a medium bodied wine with a finish of black cherry and sandy tannins that could soften with a few years of age.

I like this quite a bit, especially in the context of the other wines at this year's UGC. There's a freshness and old-school character to the not-too-ripe cassis fruit, and a good sense of terroir. It's still a bit on the dull-tannins side of things, but that's the vintage. It'll make good drinking eventually.

Starting with the 2009 vintage, the property expanded to 70 hectares when the new owners, the Perrodo family, added Labegorce Zede, back into the fold. Blending 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot, the wine reached 14% alcohol. In the nose, earth, chocolate mint, truffle and blackberry. Soft and silky in texture, the wine finishes with chocolate-covered boysenberry. The wine will be aged in 60% new oak for between 16-18 months. 89 – 90 Pts

Not very pleasant. Too plummy and overpowering. Muted and thick. No acid streak to lighten it up.
