A few pearls at Langtons recently, including this single bottle. Great fill and cork. Reasonable colour, almost young Sauternes like with no browning. Nose and palate are both developed but recognisably riesling, delicious, limes and honey, and with the mouthfeel of a Spatlase, but bone dry. Perfect salmon wine 17.75.

cork was saturated with wine sitting on top between it and the capsule and there was ullage into the neck so cork failure. bottle showed oxidation and got a hint of what it might have been but it looked like apple juice and we tipped it down the sink. either needed drinking 10 years earlier or to be put under Stelvin.

Farewell for now: Honey, ginger, woody notes and pear. Good richness on the palate, still holding with a fresh element as well. I like the flow and balance. Near to its peak now - I had this once over 10 years ago, and this showed significantly better than that bottle, which presumably had some storage issues.

Auswine Farewell Seamus Offline (Barmuda, Newtown): Marked DWU17. Only showing a hint of development, this wine displays initially understated, but then persistent acid, with some gentle stone and mineral fruits. Certainly satisfying to drink now, but you are aware there is much still to be revealed in this wine, and only time will do the job. A wonderful wine. (I drank an 88 last year that was only just ready, so I think this wine has many years in front of it still.)

Quick Notes From a Memorable Night in Sydney (Cirrus, Barangaroo): I loved this treasure of a bottle: lime, flint, petrol, butterscotch in layers of flavor waves, plus enough acidity to hold things together very, very well.

Fresh and inviting with pure lime fruit flavours, a little toast and crème brulee and a nice steely backbone.

Lovely old wine. Remarkably youthful nose. Golden colour. Citrus, honeysuckles, buttered toast. Still a nice line of acid.

Not showing well on this occasion. No fruit, a bit of honey and butterscotch, no kero. Short on the finish.
