wine number 4 of my birthday week celebration. bought on a visit to a small wine shop in my area known for older vintages, there to pick up something else and the staff said they had just brought a case from long cellaring. took the shot and happy i did. past its prime but not far on the descend. slight mold on the top of cork, but no off putting smell from the bottle, cork saturated, came out whole bottle still filled above shoulder.
half hour decant is all it needed. beautiful dark ruby color light on the nose with little hints of red fruit and smoke. slightly sweet and almost overly acidic. long minerally finish.
wish I had tried a few years before, but still good enough to grab another bottle from the case.

The long cork was almost completely soaked. The wine was medium to dark garnet in colour and threw some fine sediment. Red fruit, dried herbs, spices, tobacco, hints of chocolate and coffee as well as an earthy component. Mineral, with fresh acidity, fine, mostly resolved tannin, and superb length. Medium-bodied. Not the most complex wine, but dense and well balanced. Elegant, almost a little aristocratic.
On day one I thought the wine to be very good, but lacking the extra dimension to spark fireworks and justify the price. I saved a glass for the next day and had it slightly chilled at 15 to 16 degrees Celsius and the wine was even more elegant, with even finer tannin and even better length, plus more mature Grenache sweetness. Based on this experience, I recommend decanting the wine the day before and serving it slightly chilled. Scored for day two.

1.5 - 2hr decant. It smelt dead initially but it eventually started to show it still had some life left in it. Dried plum, blackberry, and cherry. Decomposing flowers, old leather and scorched earth. It had become pretty and delicate. 2 words not often used to describe Priorat. Tannin and oak fully dissolved into the wine and the length was good. It did keep improving the longer it was open and in hindsight I should have decanted for much longer. But there is no denying its best days are well behind it now.

Will improve with cellar time but very impressive win. Dark dark fruits with balanced oak hints to round out the tannins made for very impressive balanc, polish, length and sensuous wine. Enjoyed at Racione with PV Spain group. Incredible night!

Very dark ruby but no hints of purple. This color feature (and the odder nose) would help me distinguish the older Clos Mogador from the also very dark (but younger looking) 2001 Alion & 2003 Pintia. Very intense and expressive nose of earthy black fruit with a smoky funkiness that is hard to describe. Full bodied, thick and volputuous, this wine is layered and has a greatt texture. By the time guesses have to be submitted, I am pretty confident I have nailed this one (I did!).

Dark, dark, blood red. Fine, woody, lifted (VA?) nose of redcurrants and baked earth. Classy palate, lots of acidity bolstering rich dark fruit and a fine oak structure. Long, oak dominated, finish. 3+
