Coravin sample. Color garnet w bricking. Nose w secondary aromas dominant including raspberry damp earth and iodine. Swishing unleashes both acid and tannin structure but the tannin has the upper hand here. There is fruit that comes out with sipping that is cherry and pretty solid. Finish med length and tannic. This is much more rustic than the verglesses bottlings. If I had another I would give this more time to integrate but doubting that this will ever show delicacy. Near term would decant and serve with something sturdy to accentuate the fruit.

At 12 years old this Pinot is still fresh looking in the glass, perhaps a touch of bricking. The nose worries me though, stewed plums are a dead giveaway for over the hill wines. I do get some orange peel and fig which is interesting. The palate shows a dried out and withered wine that is past its due date. There are some attractive qualities left but the astringency and overall mouthfeel overtake. What is left, fruit-wise, is strawberry and cherry juice. Decent acidic backbone and some grainy tannins are holding the structure up but the fruit has vanished, leaving no tertiary flavors behind. A shame really. I don’t believe I ever liked this wine very much, today’s bottle being my last. 86 points is a stretch.
Nose: Raspberry, damp earth, spring flowers and fresh mint. Unreal aromas. Palate: Still youthful but with more secondary character showing decent acidity, cherries, chalk minerals, soft tannins, subtle earth and spices and a clean, elegant finish. Just superb. Last bottle of this and a great time to leave. Still 93 points.

Nose: Fresh mint, basil, and other assorted herbs combine with undertones of black cherries, flowers, bacon fat, Vasoline petroleum and leather. Super cool nose! Palate: Still brisk acidity with light cherry, bacon fat and an elegant finish. After 2 years (last notes on 7/31/15) this has remained very similar to the last bottle but now with a very intriguing nose. Still very elegant and balanced and now 93 points. Last bottle will sit for another 2+ years.

Nose: Lots of Burg funk up front with cherries, assorted herbs crushed rock. Certainly more secondary character than last bottle (notes on 3/16/13). Palate: Lots of cherry with some raspberry and hints of loamy minerals. Finish is very refined and elegant. Still a wonderfull Burg.

Nose: Very complex nose of lilacs and other assorted flowers, cherries, raspberries, loam, and Burg funk substrate. After extended aeration additional damp earth, moss, and mocha aromas are present. This is one of the best Burg wines (in terms of nose) I've had in quite some time. Palate: Soft styled but with youthful tension and flavors of bright cherry and raspberry and earthy undertones with a medium length finish. This is young but wonderful now. It will be interesting to see how it is in 1 year which will be the time horizon on the next bottle. I really like Laleurie-Piot wines. Really solid producer!
