Medium dark red. Youthful cherry bouquet. A little monolithic in the mid-palate. Still a little young. For Volnay, a little mute. This needs more time, but excellent potential.

Dull red. Wafting soft red fruit and soil. Medium to light weight. Naturally ripe, sweet red berry, well integrated acidity, some spice, and resolved tannins. Delicious and more ready than just about any 2005 Premier Cru I've tried. Excellent now and it should be for another 5+ years at least.

Dark ruby red, paling edge. Medium+ bq w spices, flowers, cherries, dark plums, lingonberries. Very fine tannins, polished yet still grippy, nice acidity, dark fruits - very nice middle! Aftertaste not so long, some alcohol, spices. Wine is probably at its best now.

Half bottle. Light ruby. Lots of pine resin on the first pour. Medium weight, astringent feel. Although the wood remained too prominent, some red fruit eventually perked up enough to make it more pleasant to drink. Fundamentally out of balance though.

Half bottle. Primary ruby color. Menthol, resin, and red fruit. Medium weight, light oak. Very good melange of red cherry and soil with excellent underlying acidity. Coming along nicely but nowhere near completely unfolded even from this small format bottle.

I suspect some level of oxidation, or really light cork taint, unfortanately, but not terrible enough to bin. So here's a tasting note FWIW.
Half glass tasting pour while I decant the rest. Medium dark ruby core, lighter garnet at the rim. Nose is lightly spiced with an iron streak running down the middle; it's meaty and savory. Initial impression of the palate is that there is not fruit leading and it's quite evolved. It is medium+ in weight. There is leather. Fruit there would be a mushy black plum. Some quite asserive tannins still lingering. The length is relatively good.
After 2 hours in the decanter it did become somewhat more primary and fresh than it was, but still an over-aged element. The delicacy and red fruit is more in place of the tertiery bluntness. Also it's less tannic for certain.
But, yeah, suspect not a tip top bottle.

Half bottle. Healthy ruby color. Reductive smells that took about 15 minutes to peel off; then ripe black cherry. Medium weight and not a reticent or particularly elegant Volnay. Assertive dark red fruit leavened by a bit of back end soil and solid acidity. Even from this smaller format, this was notably primary, fruity, and still pretty monochromatic at this point. I can't argue with the amount of stuffing, though.

Moss, wet forest floor, mushroom. this wine has entered its second transition as primary fruit is fading slowly into secondary smells. Still a good tannic backbone but just in a great place in its evolution. Time to drink

Medium ruby, a bit garnet hues, the nose opens in 1 h with great aromas of leather, flowers, minerals, red fruit. Integrated tannins, vivid acidity, tart cherry, minerals, mushrooms, forrest floor, impressive... so intense, but same time elegant. Amazing

Very dark ruby with a restrained nose. Juicy palate of dried raspberries, dark cherry, and black pepper. Elegant and balanced, with a medium mouthfeel and a long finish. A lovely Volnay with attractive fruit, in the middle of an auspicious drinking window.

A wonderful Burgundy that will last for years. We had with Veal chops with an apple sauce. It went seamlessly, this is what you hope for when you buy these bottles. Hold for 1-10 more years, you will not be disappointed.

Much better than the previous bottle. At maturity, sweet and complex, secondary aromas and a good balance between freshness and evolution. A very classy demonstration of Volnay potential

Marks duckhouse – MV Krug, Bonneau CDP, Centenaire, Truchot, Pousse d'Or & etc.: Captivating nose displaying the first stage of youthful maturity, raspberry, strawberry, sous bois, caramel, truffle, a hint of Asian spice and earth. Beautifully integrated youthful palate, love the caramel, sous bois and truffle notes hitting simultaneously, perfect amount of acidity and mineral, and a long raspberry and sous bois driven finish. If tasted blind, I would have guessed as a Vosne. Drinking magnificently at the youthful peak. Excellent showing. I highly recommend based on this bottle.

EWG 10 Years On Tasting at Conrad's: Ruby red, lovely red cherry notes, juicy blackberry, subtle pinot spice, tangy but great depth and youth still. Classic Volnay, and in really good shape. did not get obvious signs of oak in here. EWG 10 years on tasting.

Nice wine, but considering the reputation of the vintage, I did not find greatness on it. It is balanced, retains some fruit, perhaps the wood is a bit drying on the finish, which is not that long.

Translucent violet/red, fragrant nose...smooth, earthy, and very elegant palate with a medium-short finish. This didn't blow me away with complexity, but its absolutely delicious. Drinking well now and should be fine for several more years.

Decanted one hour, consumed over next four. Slight bricking at the rim. Herbs, flowers, cherry on a nice nose. Palate with a lot of tart cherry, but the wine is a bit flabby. Low acid, tannin and some wood remaining. I dont think this is in a dumb stage, I think it is just not quite in balance. Very good, but a brick shy of excellent.

Very good, but somewhat disappointing given the vintage. A lot of red berry on the nose, palate of tart cherry and plum. Tannin has integrated. A bit low on acid. Finish long and clean. Light in mouth feel, but no real perfume to elevate this. Does not taste particularly of Volnay, could be CA. Has several years left, so might improve, but I am guessing it does not have a lot of upside.

Drinking well after one hour decant. Nice nose, very good palate with berry and a bit of tannin left, finish clean with fruit. No real zing, but very solid effort that drank well alone and with food. This has time left but I would be surprised if it improved significantly over where it is right now.

Great showing for this Volnay after 1 hour of air, some thought this is a VR coz the nose is dense yet elegant, and tannin present but soft. Medium + palate and will be fantastic after a few more years.

From .375 with two hours of air. Showing an unexpected (at this stage) earthiness on the nose with spice and red fruits. The red fruits carried forward on the palate. Juicy fruits--still showing some baby fat--a little oak and good grip. Should have a long and enjoyable life ahead of it.

Drinks very well now, strong fruit on the nose and palate, some tannins, a bit of wood but not overpowering. Not a powerful wine, more a finesse wine. Probably good on the young side relative to oher 05s of similar class.

Clear ruby, slightly blue reflexions. Really delicious, focused and complex nose: nice casks, cherries, red currants and granny's strawberry jam. It has a pronounced meatiness, like red roast beef, but also tomato purée, garlic, herbs and flowers. There's a weak hint of soluble (terpentine) and then lots of sensual pinot spicyness leaning towards sous-bois. A fragrance for poets! Quite broad and tender palate with good acids, still round with baby fat. Somewhat thin on the midpalate. Has great charm and a good future!
