bold with typical Riesling petrol notes, apricots, grapefruit gave the wine a nice backbone and made it interesting, served blind. the age did surprise us, we thought more of 2009.

you feel the alcohol, for me a little bit too fat and creamy, the acidity is too low for this fullbodied wine, fruit is missing a little bit, still a good wine, at his top, long finish

Dark yellow in the glass. Aromas of lemon peel and stone. Incisive on the palate with the addition of pepper and eucalyptus-like flavors. Fresh, with nice acidity. Carries its 13.5% alcohol gracefully. Beautifully balanced wine, drinking very well now.

$39.99 retail sale price. Opened next to the 2002 Pichler Riesling Smaragd "M" (see TN). On day 2, tasted next to the '01 Pichler Gruner Veltliner from the same vineyard (see TN). Compared to the '02 "M" the '01 Dursteiner Kellerberg is a bigger wine all-around; slightly darker in color; packed with minerals, though somewhat rounder; it has more width, weight and fruit; good, mouth watering acidity; longer, more assertive finish than the 2002 Riesling "M." I would suspect that the '01 D. Kellerberg is built more for the long haul than the '02 "M" - but that's just an assumption... By comparison, the '02 Riesling "M" is a lighter, more elegant wine with delicate floral notes, fine detail / minerality, clean fruit, notes of rain water, and a dry finish where it seems almost lighter than air...

Elegant floral nose with a bit of smokiness. Quite rich on the attack, but also very restrained. Good balance; good depth, good acidity. But rather curiously generically white-wine-like, and scarcely overladen with riesling characteristics. Did they forget to put the riesling in? Very Good.

Eleventh Annual White Truffle Dinner (Chez Weber - Chicago IL): Great underlying fruit. Musty? Probably corked, although not everybody agreed.

Honey, marshmallow, salt and spices. Earthy and spicy palate. Long, with a touch of sweetness rounding the palate off. Very good, and will get better.
