Drank during Cornerstone Provenance Night Event with more than 30 wines tasting. Did not have enough time to take down notes and didn’t have proper wine glasses. In general, the wines are still drinking fine and have characteristics of old vintage wine; forest floor, some barnyard, spices, tea, hawthorn, toast. I only managed to use my own personal score to rate the wine.

Deep garnet color, almost black at the core. No sign of aging here. Sweet blackberries and blueberries dominate the nose, combined with the warm earth and brick tones so often found in a Medoc. After an hour or so in the glass, the upbringing comes to the front: coffee and caramel. Medium to full bodied attack, very rounded tannins at first, smooth attack, on the mid palate the acidity kicks in, surprisingly fresh for a 09. The fruit - blueberries and blackcurrant - emerge on the finish. Good length with a fine balance between sweet fruit, smooth tannins and freshness. Amazingly young and fresh for such a warm vintage. This is just in the beginning of its life, but wonderful to drink now. Will probably earn a higher score in 5-10 years for those of admiring old Bdx- A treat, not totally great, but at this price it is just a bargain.

Appearance: Bright and clear, the wine is of deep ruby colour, with fading rims and legs. Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of black fruit of blackberry and cassis, oak notes of toast, kernel notes of coffee, pungent spice of liquorice, animal notes of leather, maturity notes of tobacco and savoury. The wine is developing. Palate: Dry with medium acidity, the wine has medium (+) tannin of ripe and velvety texture, medium in alcohol and full body, with medium intensity (+) flavours of black fruit of blackberry and cassis, oak notes of cedar, kernel notes of chocolate, maturity notes of savoury and tobacco. The wine has a medium (+) finish. Conclusion: Very good quality Haut-Medoc with an intense nose showing good complexity, with plenty of ripe black fruit, nice oaky and coffee characters, supported with liquorice and leather, with also good development aromas. The wine has good balance, well-structured, robust with good concentration and a fairly long finish. It is ready to drink now and can maintain for another 3-5 years.

The initial aromas, when pouring it into a decanter, where of dark fruit, savoury, undergrowth characters and a fair whack of vanilla and spice from the oak. With time, it opened and showed more fruit complexity on the nose. The palate showed medium body, moderate acid and surprisingly low tannins. I see little point in keeping it longer. The structure for long ageing is not apparent, and it is lighter than many 2009's - some are still very primal and structural. An Englishman's claret?? In a nice way.
The palate shows a range of dark fruit meshed with savoury characters - tobacco, capsicum and quite firm vanilla/spicy oak. The aftertaste adds a little inky, aniseed characters. Yet the wine is nice without being compelling. I would not have picked this as a 2009, it just does not have the intensity or complexity. For example, Camensac is not far from Lagrange in St Julien, and it is quite similar in style, but more like the 2007 Lagrange not the 09. I'd buy again at a fair price, but there are better wines in the Medoc and it competes more with CB's than other classed growths.

The wine has a medium finish. Conclusion: Good quality Haut-Medoc with a reasonably intense nose showing decent complexity, the wine has a nice black fruit note though a bit rough in the tannin. It has a good finesse with fair concentration on palate as well as length on the finish. It is ready to drink now though can benefit from further ageing of another 3-5 years.

Surly developed since last bottle (only half a year ago). Tobacco nose with oak. On the palate a typical 09 Bx “fruit-bombe”. Medium finish but without any specific complexity. Nice and drinkable now. Might improve next 1-3 years. 88P

Big nose of blackcurrant, blackberry and tobacco. Full of black fruits and slight minty flavour. Full body with a lot of mineral to support the structure. Tannin was still too hard and aggressive. Slightly uncomfortable to drink now. Perhaps waiting for a few years more of aging. Have potential to grow.

Seem mature and have a fine but not that generous nose. On the palate blackcurrant and moderate oak in the finish. Nice and drinkable now. Would somewhat have expected more from a ´09. Unsure if it will develop more complexity over time. 86-88P

Needs some air. Then: ok but not very intense nose of some redcurrant and cigar box. Quite boring on the palate, however. Lacks structure and depth. Definitely below expectation for a classified bordeaux, even for less than 25 €.

This was probably one of the least exciting 2009s I've had. The nose was drop dead gorgeous, flashy, and inviting. But the palate and finish felt a bit flat. I suppose there was some black currant and cigarbox. Nothing horrible about this wine but there are infinite numbers of good 2009 to choose from. Not a buy at $35.

A bit subdued upfront, then some sweetish oak at the end, but the lingering taste is a bitter and a bit medicinal. Quite tannic. Seems to me to be the worst of both worlds, old style Haut Medoc and modern. Perhaps I'm being too hard?
Interesting to read Jancis Robinson's reviews of this wine are very variable. Perhaps there is a lot of bottle variation?

Bordeaux Confidential USA, nose of red fruit, red currants, and touch of cigar box, more of the same on the palate, three years older than its peer tasted today which make it more enjoyable to taste, medium body, tasty, medium/long finish.

Being such a young wine you would expect the tannins or acidity to be very prominent but this wine is drinking so well right now. I can only imagine what it will be like in 5 years. Medium finish and medium to full body. Cherry, vanilla, and blackberries on the palette. So good!

Not as good as I hoped. Whilst no formal note taken, I found this a little harsh without too much fruit. Fairly easy to drink otherwise but maybe in a dumb phase. Disappointing and I hope to be proved wrong if I have this again as I actually loved the 1996 of this wine.

Bordeaux Star Performers Tasting (8 Danks street, Sydney): On the nose there is muted red over blackcurrant, biscuit, spice…In the mouth there are flavours of sour red over black currant, quite tart, then chalky, slightly unripe tannin on the medium length. Meh

One of the more obscure classified growths, the 2009 is an open, easy to drink wine with an oak, dark cherry, earth and herb perfume. Medium bodied, with some rusticity to the tannins, this should be better with a few more years of age.

Tannins well integrated to vanishing. Lacks thickness. Persistent hints of volatile. Probably should have drink earlier. May has suffered from improper cellar conditions in the last 6 years

Supple and juicy with round tannin, red as well as black fruits and a firm amount of acidity. Overall a friendly wine, but not worthy its Grand Cru status and certainly not in a vintage like this. Will age well until 2020. 87+

Classic juice with ripe red fruits, improved in the decanter. Almost a hint of of more mid palate and length with 2+ hours. Would rate higher if it had more dimension. New package/design. Supposedly more selective during harvest these days. Tasty stuff. with 89-90+

I decanted the wine for 2.5 hours. It was dark purple in colour. The wine offered dark fruits, red currant, plum, cocoa powder and vanilla on the nose. On the palate the wine showed dark & red fruits, currant, coffee and vanilla. It was medium-bodied, had medium length and was a little alcoholic. The wine was OK and might improve with some age, but there is definitely no need to seek it out actively.

Not many notes because it is not really special, but in fact this is a classical Bordeaux with cassis, some oak, good acidity and tannin. Just not really exclusive. Can probably age 10 years or a bit longer but will never be really luxurious.
