  • Carema is a region in the north of Piedmont near the Valle d'Aosta border.
    13.5% alc.
Produttori Carema Reserve (white label) has aged a minimum of three years of which twelve months in large oak casks or chestnut.

Colour is a bright ruby/red that fades to garnet on the edges. Transparent and "light" looking. But don't let this fool you. There is plenty of stuffing here.
Gentle aromas of roses, red fruits, and spices ... and a touch of balsamic, tar and black tea.
Flavours repeat the aromas. Medium bodied, beautiful seam of mineral/stoney acidity. Drying tannins nicely balanced with fruit and acidity. Nothing dominates.
A really delicious wine to drink now but could age maybe another 10 years. I really enjoyed this. Do not have it with anything heavy or spiced (steak with BBQ sauce ... no no). I enjoyed this wine with a slab of lightly herbed Salmon , a warm goat cheese salad with a light herbed vinaigrette, and fresh corn on the cob. Perfect to allow the highlights of this complex, yet simple wine to shine through (okay, not so much with the corn ... but worked with the rest of the meal).

  • Aromas of candied cherry, oak and some floral notes. Red fruit flavour profile, acidic, grippy tannins. Long finish.

  • Such pretty traditionally made nebbiolo...transparent...unadorned by any modern meddling.
The nose shows lifted violets, tart cherry, plum, minerals with the ever so faintest whiff of reduction
The palate has the prettiest note of incense that is augmented by red flowers, minerals, raspberries, cranberries, strawberries and plum.
The finish is medium with good complexity but has such lift. I love this wine.

  • Very light and transparent red colour with hints of orange. Beautiful lifted bouquet of florals, red fruit, and spices. The palate is clearly feminine and elegant yet Carema is no weakling as the fruit is expansive and lingers on the finish. There is a hint of black tea mixed in with the red fruit and spice with a lovely freshness and palate cleansing acidity that reflect its high altitude origins. If there ever was a wine that spoke of where it came from Carema is certainly at the top of my list. While it may never land a big score in a blind tasting among its southern peers, it is the perfect wine to delight with a meal or even in a more contemplative setting.

  • Pretty floral aromas on the nose. A graceful, feminine style of Nebbiolo. You can taste the delicacy- with bright airy fruit, ample complexity and acidity. This is a prototypical higher altitude Nebbiolo that's drinking well right now, this 2007 Riserva is certainly not burly or overly tannic. Easy drinking and immediate, it's the kind of bottle that will empty quite quickly amongst friends. I'm eager to buy more, but these bottles aren't widely available. Polaner Selections, NY.

  • More tannins than carema classico, but also less acidity than classico 08. It is like some kind of layer preventing the wine from releasing in mouth.

  • Pretty wine....very traditional. I enjoyed it more than the score indicates.
