  • Stunning Sancerre here, at its zenith, fill with all the intensities and brightness one could want from this domaine, but with a sousant of richness (despite the vintage) that really took this to another level. Gooseberries, lime, wet stones, very long. Everyone loved it.

  • Aired in bottle for few hours already. Leftover sample from Asparagus. Drank in Gabriel Standart.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, yellow lemon colour. Thin legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of passionfruit, green mangoes, gunpowder. Developed.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), medium body. Medium+ flavur intensity with flavours of green mangoes, passionfruit, slight grassy herb, flinty stony minerality with bits of gunpowder, touch of citrus lemon oil. Medium+ finish. Texture a little more oily as it warms up,
Very good quality. Lovely Sancerre. Feels like 5+ years younger. Great provenance.

  • Robe jaune dorée;

  • Sound light color but noticeable spritz. Varietal green aromas, but then some cabbage. Stripped texture not at all like Boulay and bizarre flavors with an awful, bitter finish. Yikes, some major bacteriologic problems here.

  • Weightless and balanced.

  • Tulip yellow. Really excellent ripe lemon drop and glycerine texture with acidity to balance it all. No really strident Sauvignon varietal notes. This has held up beautifully despite the fact that 2011 was hardly a renowned year for the region.

  • Good, but preferred this just a touch younger when the fruit and had more richness to match the acidic vibrancy.

  • Just went out with my better half for some sushi, and brought along the 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2016 Mont Damnes from Boulay. Fascinating, to be honest, as each wine was quite distinct from it's siblings.

The 2011 has that grassy note you often get in Sancerre. Still bracing acidity to lift the fruit on the palate - this may have been my favorite wine tonight and it paired very well with the sushi. Maybe a touch short on the finish, but otherwise very nice.

  • Light yellow-gold in the glass, with a distinct grassy note on the nose.

Tart white fruits, dry and saline on the palate - if you like Sauvignon Blanc, this is quite "classic" and drinking very well right now.

  • Delicious. Fantastic juicy well balanced and complex Sancerre. Loads of mineral and citrus, this was hard to stop drinking.

  • A day 2 note. Color is a light yellow-white in the glass. Nose has that saline/sea-breeze note - not quite Chablis or Muscadet, but similar.

Dry and crisp on the palate, with nice persistence. There is a complexity here that elevates this from the typical "summer sipper", although I could also see enjoying this out on the deck while grilling.

For what it's worth, we opened this last night side-by-side with the 2010 Boulay Clos de Beaujeu, and all three of us preferred the CdB (unfortunately, no TN).

  • Oeil Jaune paille;

  • Similar in color to the 2014; the nose here comes across as less crisp, more ripe.

Less focused on the palate, but less severe as well. Nice lengthy finish that I am still tasting as I type this.

  • Light yellow in the glass; nose is very "tight", for lack of a better word, with the typical grassy notes in the background.

Bright acidity framing the white fruits on the palate - quite dry, not as "easy" SB, but this is pretty good on opening.

  • Notes after 2 hrs open. Light-medium straw color with clear and bright shimmer. A gentle, but very pretty nose: honeysuckle, lots of tropical & citrus fruit, big and fresh salinity/stone, a touch of wood. The palate is like quicksilver, slipping and sliding all over the tongue with layers of the bouquet stretching way out into the finish. Even enjoyable at room temp with no burn whatsoever. Ahh, Old World. This has, at least, a few good years left. 5+12+18+8 = 93

  • Pop and pour. Very clean on the palate with notes of lemon. Slightly saline and oily. Very refreshing on a summer evening. Yum.

  • Première bouteille et pas déçu.
Belle robe brillante.

  • Light yellow in the glass; nice saline note on the nose.

Really covers the palate; there is a lot of complexity here, so hard to pick out one thing identifiable as a highlight, but this is serious Sancerre.

  • Incredibly young and coiled up. Nose has herbs, fresh cut grass, green apple and minerals. Palate has searing acidity with a slight spritz. With air, it softens and fleshes out a bit. Modest finish. Promising raw materials, but seems really young right now.

  • PnP at Enoteca Sogno and paired beautifully with seared scallops! Has evolved beatifully and ready to drink over the upcoming summer months.

  • Complex, powerful, yet still elegant wine. No sauvignon blanc-typical asparagus, gooseberry and cat pee in sight. A classy wine.

  • In spite of the less than stellar 2011 vintage where many of the SB's were flabby and lacked acidity, this producer did quite well. Nice aromas and flavors of salty minerality, apple, lime, and the characteristic grassiness. Much crisper and acidic than any of the Sancerre's I've had to date from 2011. Excellent, lingering finish that exhibits the anticipated and expected mouth puckering finish. Pricey, but much better than than others from this vintage. Delicious!

  • Bibendum Portfolio Tasting: Bland. Touch of herb and okay balance but did nothing for me.

  • Hard lemon candy, a little green apple, and fresh rain on a hot summer day minerality. Delicious and very gulpable. Ann and I don't drink much Sauv Blanc but Boulay might change that.

  • Next up today, the Mont Damnes. I bought a full case of this, so this is the bottling in 2011 I am most familiar with.

Nice brininess on the nose - I noted that the La Cote is almost chablis-like in that regard, and this may be even more so.

Nice acidity framing granny smith apples - really a refreshing drink right now, and at least from my perspective, still showing more "ready to drink" than the La Cote, although also a wine that will be able to last a number of years.

You always wonder whether wines like these will really "repay" bottle age; while I have no doubt that this wine is capable of further aging, you do have to question whether it can ever be more delicious than it is right now.

  • Similar in color to the La Cote; nose has that same scent of salinity intermingled with white fruits.

Sharply etched flavors on the palate; delicious in a word, and while I wouldn't call it forward, so much more ready to drink than the La Cote. The kind of wine that would make a non-believer love Sancerre!
