My last bottle of long time favorite. Full of ripe plum, blackberry and blueberry witha hint of clove, sweetness and pepper on the finish. This is one of the more balanced Shiraz I have tasted. Discovered this at Emerils Restaurant at Universal studies almost 10 years ago. Sadly it is now very difficult to find in the US.

As this ages it needs additional time to open. By the second day, it was everything I had previously experienced. Full of blueberry, plum, cassis with warm spices on the finish. The slightly medicinal flavor very apparent 3 or 4 years ago is still there but has softened and is well integrated. Nice medium finish with a hint of cocoa.

Deep purple in color. Visually appealing. Nose of slate and overripe raisins. Full bodied, with currant, clove and white pepper on the palate. Nicely balanced with a long finish. One of our favorites. Full bodied and spicy to stand up to pre Super Bowl hors d'ouvres.

Continues to get better and better. Opaque, dark purple in the glass. Over time, the astringency and spice so evident when young has morphed into deep, complex and layered notes of mocha, clove, blackberry and a bit of plum. Although delicious in its youth, this is for me, a much more interesting wine as a 9 year old. Still 2 bottles left.

If you still have it, drink it soon, but I'm sure it's good through 2014. Compared to when I bought it in 2007, still huge black fruits and amazing richness, but now really lovely nose with smoke and warm spices. Served with Chinese beef and broccoli, everybody at the table was amazed. PnP with vinturri, held up beautifully for over an hour, only then finally smelling a little hot. Overall really balanced and just a huge pleasure.

Deep, inky purple color. Long legs, still holding up with ample glycerine. Nicely balanced with notes of plum, boysenberry, vanilla and oak on the palate. Still has a hint of minerality associated with Shiraz, without the often found medicinal astringency. This is an old favorite which is drinking very well.

Opaque purple color. Clove, pepper, blackberry and licorice on the palate. Big fruit, not a lot of complexity but a huge mouth feel and lasting finish.

Deep, inky purple color. Age has softened the intensity of this wine. Still has a huge mouthfeel. Much less fruit on the palate but definite notes of leather, spice and tobacco. At this stage, tastes similar to a Cabernet/Shiraz blend.

Plenty of fruit still left though not the fruit bomb it once was. Still fills the mouth with blueberry, blackberry, clove and pepper. No doubt at peak but still has several years left. Enjoyed over tenderloin celebration dinner with Greg and Marcia S.

Fun New Years Eve horizontal tasting of 2004 HB Baroota, Kangaroo Island and McLarenvale Shiraz. Baroota was deep garnet in color with lots of fruit and pecan on the pallet, softening and losing some of its edge over a couple of hours. Kangaroo Island was more of a ruby color with a lot of spice (pepper) on the pallet. McLarenvale was almost a cross between the two. Color was similar to Baroota with lots of fruit and some spice but none of the pecan overtones of the Baroota.

The 2004 is aging very nicely. Still plenty of fruit and not terribly complex but softening with age. Not the fruit bomb it used to be but more balanced with notes of dark berries on the nose and the pallet. Nice mouth feel with some much appreciated softening of the spice notes.

We drank this with grilled tenderloin steak on 8/24/08. It had aromas of licorice, meat, vanilla, cedar, pepper & spice. The palate followed with plum, licorice, meat, vanilla, pepper & spice. It was very smooth and round…not tannic or bitter. Slightly dry with a long (90 sec) finish!!! I really enjoyed this. My wife thought it was too dry (I don’t see that at all).

Dark purple color. Nose of plum, pepper, and a little earth. Flavors of dark fruits and quite a bit of spice. Full bodied wine with a very nice mouthfeel and long spicy finish. WOTN for me, but not most of the group.

Now where in the world is Baroota you ask? I was told that it comes from further inland and a little bit NW of Barossa. This shiraz comes from 30 year old vines and has a nose of blueberries, licorice, with a hint of mocha. Quite the fruit bomb with flavors of plums, raspberries and blueberries in the forefront followed by a hint of spice. A monster of a shiraz but that's the only thing coming forth from this wine. HS88

This '04 was showing well and still holding its fruit nicely, compared to the '02 which was showing its age.
Dark garnet colored, full bodied, rich concentrated black and blue fruits with tones of spice, hints of vanilla, smoke and pepper.
