From my favorite value winery, this Merlot is probably not one of my favorites. True, it is very young, just released. It tastes kind of rough, a little too much acid that at this point overpowers the fruit. Who would have thought to age a $9 wine for a couple of years. The color is darker than usual for a Merlot. There actually is a bit of structure, probably some of it from oak, which might not be from a barrel. Right now the fruit is a little shy, but leans toward dark cherry and red raspberry. Plenty, possibly too much oak. Just slightly out of balance. The finish is like American oak, substantial tannins, graphite, and cherry. Will definitely be better in another year, or through the vinturi.

Very light in appearance and taste. I prefer wines with a deeper appearance and bolder taste.

No particular fruit nose, nor structure to the wine. Not what I would consider a typical merlot. Overall, disappointing.
