A little overripe immediately on opening, but after a couple of hours breathing time the wine offered deep, cassis fruit, balanced with moderate tannin and decent acidity. Probably at its peak now, if not a little past it, so one to drink up I feel.

The nose seemed a bit remote in a Zalto Universal glass and yet quite complex (leather was quite prominent). In the taste the cabernet sauvignon aromas were complemented by kind of a bloody sweetness. Flavourful and rustic.
Four days later, second half from recorked half-bottle, decanted shortly: More harmonious and rounded, very likeable with its juicy cabernet tainted barbera-like sweetness.

60% Gaglioppo and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose is clean but restrained. The palate is dry, with medium (+) acidity, tannins and minerality. Black and red fruit and spice. It is medium bodied, with medium flavor intensity and length. Well made, balanced wine that is drinkeable now or for several more years. It is food-friendly but not a particularly great value at $29.00.

Taste: Medium bodied with medium/high acidity and some good tannins. The tones of dark berries, red cherries, licorice, and spice tones have a savory quality to them, but the mid-palate is slightly lacking.
Overall: This is a very good wine, but is just lacking that last bit to make it a really good wine. There is good balance to this with a savoriness as well, but it just doesn't have really good depth.

Dark nose. Earthy, licorice, blackberry, leather, very-and something else I just can't place. Great little wine.

2013 Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri tour (Union Station, Chicago, IL): Nose: There is a savoriness to the nose, but with a bit of an upfront quality as well with tones of dark berries, red cherries, licorice, and spice tones.
