  • From D-Mag. Pop and pour. No decanting time required. Ripe black fruits. Dusty tannins. A few dried herb. Light touch of Oak. Very smooth and well made but short on complexity.

  • With some air became a balanced mature cab that glides over the palate. Some fruit and vanilla on a fragrant nose. Subtle complexity but the finish was on the short side. Overall very pleasant experience - drink up.

  • Had side by side with 2004. Color showing a little maturity but not bricking. Black fruits, some vanilla Oak, still some rough tannins in spots but overall smooth enough to enjoy. The fruit is starting to fade a bit while the tannins remain quite firm. Drink up in 750 format, but still a high quality wine at this moment. If WS gave this wine an 81, it must have been very early in the wine's life, when I imagine it was likely a hot mess.

  • Surprise of the night. This wine is in a great drinking window now, and for the price represents a strong QPR effort. The Thorevilos fruit is apparent, tasted blind, one of our guests thought this was an older Abreu wine. The wine was very clear, purple in color, a beautiful nose of cassis, plum, led into a smooth palate of plum, black currant, mocha, the finish was not powerful, but the flavors did remain for around 20 to 30 seconds. This is a smooth, very pleasurable wine to sip on its own, and does not have any rough edges. WS 81 points? I agree with "MAITREDGREG2" WS missed on this one. 92+

  • Popped & Poured.
Boy! Did Wine Spectator have this all wrong; I'm not an expert, but this wine has arrived, either the taster who made the prediction at 81pts was drunk by the end of the day, or, must have been the first time on the job. This wine exudes pure cassis, cola, and licorice, like non that I've ever experienced, also a clean, natural sweetness not found in any wines of today, not extracted or infused, but just a natural, smooth, silky finish, leaning towards dry, but resisting. A stunner, a sleeper, a classic, and a deliverer, all in one. I keep walking away in order to see what's in store for tomorrow, but, I freeze, and say to myself out loud, " that's some good sh@t!, and pour another glass, savoring each sip. This bottle will last the night, only because I've already drank a bottle of Gamut. Mmm Mmm, delicious. 94+(Can't wait to taste the 2003)

  • This is a powerful, complex wine experience! Dark fruited with earth, mushroom, charcoal, tobacco notes. big but light on its feet with good lift. Beautiful with Montreal seasoned filets. Long finish. Igneous are great wines for the money.

  • Decanted 3 hours and rebottled. Lots of ripe black fruit and smoke on the nose. Full bodied but not heavy on the palate. Great attack of ripe blackberry, blueberry and plum with notes of cedar, charcoal and smoke. Despite the intense fruit and smokiness this remains quite fresh and has some nice minerality on the mid palate. The finish is about 25 seconds with smooth tannins. Not much complexity and may come across as a little too extracted for a lot of people. I can appreciate this style but only every now and then. Nonetheless, this is a quality wine which seems to be in its prime.

  • This was a terrific wine - it's big but not over the top. Drank next to a 2003 Hobbs Stagecoach (which eas a great wine too - Thanks Leo!) and was very similar in nose and taste profile but was slightly less intense in the fruit but had nicer structure than the Hobbs. Nose reminded me of the 2007 Insignia - just great. Long finish. For half the money of the Hobbs, this was a star.

  • opened 5 hours prior to drinking, should have aggressively decanted, this wine gets better with lots and lots of air and time. Should be a long term ager. Deep hue with loads of cassis and black fruit. I think these need to sit for several years. Very intriguing wine. Has something special about it.

  • Central Texas Offline in Fredericksburg, TX (LilacWine's house in Fredericksburg, TX): WIML92,NOWA,NOWS

Tasted April 22, 2006 at LilacWine’s house in Fredericksburg, TX. Opened and served immediately in a Spiegelau Authentis Magnum glass. Dark crimson color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of dried herbs, cassis and plums. Flavors of black currants, plum, mocha and a smidge of blueberry. Interesting wine that I’d like opportunity to revisit in better tasting conditions. Can be drank now with at least an hour in the decanter to jump start things. Should hold well if not improve for at least another 5-7 years. At an estimated price of close to $85.00 per bottle I’d say the value is acceptable, could be agreeable with improvement.

  • I agree! Amazing nose that is reminiscent of The Maiden. The intensity faded a bit after 3 hours in the decanter but still very nice. Deep purple color, nice sweet cassis on the nose and palate. Medium bodied with nice balance of dark fruits and fine tannins that all come together nicely on a 20 second finish. I'm not so sure this is a long term ager as it is drinking beautifully now, and probably will continue to show nicely over the next 5 years.

  • Wonderful Bouquet, followed by luscious flavors of cherry, blackberry, and vanilla. Very smooth and soft with a delightful finish. Very well balanced even at this young age.
