Chateuaneuf in ATL 9/28/08: Very good showing. Group like this more than I did initially. High-toned sweet cherry and herbal notes on the palate. Reveals more earth, leather and pepper with time. Opened nicely over time. WOTF.

Pop and pour. Same newish-looking cork that others have noted. Big beautiful perfumed nose...almost Burgundian. A bit thin on the palate for me, with pretty big white pepper. Brief finish. Interesting, but I probably won't be looking for more.

Very nice sweet red cherry, kirsch, earth, tapenade flavors, medium bodied, nice texture and finish. For an "off year" in Rhones, this is a very good Chateauneuf du Pape, drinking beautifully. Paired with grilled pork chops with sage and garlic.

Another excellent experience with this bottling. Cork looked fresh, just a millimeter or two of penetration. Nose full of garrigue, tapenade, kirsch, and raspberry. Racy balance in the mouth with a bit of fading tannin left on a shorter than medium finish. Great value for a nice, mature CdP.

Continues to be a nice mature CdP. Perfect cork with minor penetration. Nose of red meat, kirsch, dark fruit, some olive and some garrigue. Pleasantly full in the mouth with some tannin remaining with a mineral finish with a touch of iron.

These must have been re-corked at the domain before release - the cork is like new and the wine cannot have penetrated the cork more than a millimeter. Similar to the last tasting note, kirsch, cassis, roasted herbs, dark fruit, and red meat on the nose. A surprisingly fresh balance with some noticeable acid and very mature, smooth tannins. Palate is similar to the nose. Drank with pan-roasted veal chops with polenta.

Interesting experience when compared to the last bottle - the cork on this bottle was perfect, the wine had barely penetrated the bottom surface. The nose was roasted herbs and some dark fruit. The balance was very fresh with acidity balancing rounded tannins -- emphasis on fresh. While the balance was better than in the recent past, the flavors were not as bright, mostly roasted herbs and meat, some subdued and smokey cherry, but lacking the strong olive notes from previous tasting. Overall outstanding, but very different from the last one.

Very nice, mature CdP. Upon opening, one might have thought that the bottle was filled with Calamata olives. Aromas and flavors of black olives, red cherries, earth and herbes de Provence followed. Well balanced, with slight though noticible tannins (and less so, acid). Lush and full in the mouth with a reasonably long finish.

Well made but lacking some complexity. Late in life likely past its prime.

Nose of red fruit that doesn't last thru the mid-palate. Slightly herbal finish. Overall a bit of a disapointment.

What's not to like about this perfectly matured CNP. Absolute pleasure from nose to finish.
