The deep dark red color of a new Barolo is the good news. The lack of any significant bouquet or fruit is the bad news. Bought new and aged properly but these things happen with wine even a Barolo.

Definitely past its prime, but still drinking well for 20 years old. An elegant combination of rose and tar flavors. Light bodied. Low acidity. nice finish.

Drink up. This is fading fast, though given the confected flavors, I am not sure it ever had a prime time. Sad that Barolo would be turned into a caricature with no capability to mature into something complex and interesting.

This wine is holding up well despite it's age. Med body, tannins are settled, good fruit but this wine is slightly past prime. If you have this, needless to say, drink now.

Cork in great condition; Color of Med Garnet; Aromas of cherry, licorice, floral - not much showing for about an hour. On the palate, med plus acidity, med tannins, showing a med intensity with flavors of cherry, tar, tarragon. The wine continued to evolve and open over two hours - PLEASE WAIT the two hours as it is worth it.

Decanted for and hour. Browning at the rim. Moderate legs. Cherry and red berry nose. Cherry, violet, red licorice and underripe fig in the finish. My last bottle, but this has a lot of time left, i believe.

Decanted for an hour. Brownish purple with medium legs. Cherry, menthol and tar in the nose. Evolving away from fruit through to the finish of spice and pine needles.

Decanted an hour. Brownish red. Cherry, juniper, and tar in the nose. The palate is similar--poised through to the end, with an earthy finish. Tannins entirely resolved. Ready to drink.

Even though this is the base Barolo, this thing sings. Wonderful nose, elegant but powerful, full, lush with red cherries, bits of tar, herbs, bits of spices, earthy and floral.. Great power to this wine, slightly reserved but looks like it is hiding a larger wine

nose: lush and beautiful nose of red cherries, herbs, bits of spices, red florals, and some bits of menthol. Great depth and very perfumed at this young stage, but obviously very primary as this doesn't have that second gear just yet, but what is present is very pretty and quite enjoyable
taste: Very pretty with medium/high acidity and medium+ tannins with plush tones of red cherries, herbs, roses, bits of berries and a touch of menthol with some anise seed starting to poke through. Great feel that is nice and plush that is still very primary, but drinking at a primary stage right now
overall: Just starting to drink, and if you like your Barolo on the more primary side, this is in a good place. Personally I like some more evolution, but certainly have zero qualms about drinking this right now. Very lovely with a nice elegance to it, this should develop nicely and be extremely interesting in another 3-4 years

Loved this. Beautiful brick color - still looks young. Aroma had the classic tar/spice, with the florals more limited but lurking in the back. Elegant, balanced, smooth, and fresh. We paired with a grilled lamb with mint, and dal -- certainly an unusual combination, but this wine worked well with both. Liked this more than the 1997, which I had earlier this year.

I bought this nine years ago, and, boy, was it worth the wait. Opened for 90 minutes and had a little less than a glass, but this was splendid.

Dinner at Mosiac in Scottsdale. A new world style Barolo. Lots of forward fruit, bold not subtle, rich and spicy. Nice finish.
