Pausing for the Cause Fundraiser and Dinner (Galit - Chicago IL): Brilliant aromas are classically Vosne styled, just slightly lightweight on the palate for Vosne Grand Cru from a vintage like 1993. Very good now. My first time tasted this wine in this vintage, but I do own a bottle and am noe curious.

Really dark brooding very ripe wine. Didn’t come across as powerful or especially delicious. Just ripe and kinda clumsy. I was expecting some high tone fruit and acids but it never showed. Felt more like a pc than gc.

Double mag. Simply stunning and way more energetic than the same wine in double mag this time last year. Bursting with red and black fruit. Real presence and depth here. At a secondary peak in this format but with decades to go.

Served blind, I guessed '92 or '93 by the color and aroma. It was more '93 in character as it sat in the glass, riper fruit. This is very pretty, and I would never have guessed this producer and vineyard. In the final analysis, a very very good wine, flirting with greatness but not quite there.

Nose has some red currant, tart and earth. Palate is not as good as the nose with fading fruit, tea and some secondary character. Unlike most 93 gc which have a sweet and alluring fruit profile, this one seems over the peak.

From double magnum. I was a bit worried about this when I received it from offsite storage as the wax capsule had broken and been completely removed. I decided to open the wine 24 hours before serving to make sure that it was still sound. The cork came out with a slight hiss that exacerbated my fears. Moreover, there was a distinctly bitter, oxidised note to the nose from the top of the bottle. I decided to recork it and leave it in the cellar until the following evening whilst travelling with a back up just in case. Fortunately, when I arrived (after a 6 hours of travelling with the bottle) and tasted the wine it was absolutely pristine. Broodingly dark colour on pouring. The wine was silky smooth on the palate with tannins fully resolved. The first glass or so was a bit muted, probably due to travel shock and it being served a little too cold. The last glass showed true fireworks though - vibrant, sweet, dark fruits with lots of spices. In this format, the wine can clearly last for several decades.

The 1993 Confuron RSV was a somewhat different story. One expects with an RSV, especially from a top vintage like 1993, to be eventually transported to a dream-like land of Oriental spices and exotic flavors, but here it seems we never made it out of the barnyard. The Brett character, which became stronger with time in the glass, combined with a very ripe, almost congealed fruit character had one taster thinking more of a Chateauneuf than a Burg, even if the Pinot varietal was recognizable. While the Brett character faded a little bit with the last drops, it still had the effect of making the wine come across as a bit coarse, even rustic. Maybe we should have sent this bottle back, but none of us had any experience with Confuron RSV to be able to say what was really to be expected here.

SLDS Icons (Tetsuya's, Sydney, Australia): An open, generous nose of vanilla, coconut, bright red berries and cherry. Tannins stand out a little bit, but there is enough boldness to the fruit to carry them. Very good, but hopefully it will take on more complexity with time.

Dark red. Scents of pine wood and Christmas. Wonderful chocolate flavour in this wine with an interesting and odd grassy element on the mid palate. Initially the aftertaste was quite bitter, but this disappeared with air. Very fresh and defined with a steely structure and a high toned nature, this had a great long aftertaste.
