This Winkl was very good, showing a nice development with some peach and grassy elements combined, lovely bitters, a nice core, good acidity and no gooseberries. In the finish some alcohol was noticeable.

Great nose, which opens up to mirabelle plums, stone fruits, some honey, herbal tea, citrus thyme and crushed stone. Full-bodied and on the more powerful side. Mouth-watering acidity and a good attack with ripe stone fruits, yellow gooseberries, herbal blend paired with a salty minerality, that accompany the long finish. This is in a really good spot and drinking rather well right now.
Tolle Nase! Mirabelle, Steinobst, etwas Honig, Kräutertee, Zitronenthymian und zermahlene Steine. Kraftvoll und körperreich. Guter Trinkfluss, dank der frischen Säure. Am Gaumen reifes Steinobst, gelbe Stachelbeere, saftige Kräuterwürze und wieder eine salzig-mineralische Note. Langer Abgang. Der ist momentan voll da und macht viel Spaß.

Served pnp, along with Fettuccine verde and Gambas al ajillo. This wine always manages to deliver. In the nose I am greeted by lemon peel and citrus thyme. After some aeration there is also yellow and green gooseberry, some pomelo, stone fruits and white blossoms. First of all, though, there is almost always a distinct mineral tendency, that reminds me strongly of limestone - and sometimes also even of Silex (Flint). This bottle of 2012 Winkl showed very well, with a medium body, hefty but well-integrated alcohol at 13,5 abv. and a taut, vigorous acidity. The palate was mostly dominated by a mineral relish at first, which was then followed by notes of yellow fruits, mirabelle plum, Granny-Smith-Apple, kiwi and pomelo, with an excellent and luscious aftertaste and long finish.
Zu grünen Fettuccine mit Gambas al ajillo. Dieser Wein ist einfach eine Bank und schafft es meistens abzuliefern. In der Nase treffe ich auf Zitronenschale und Zitronenthymian, dann gelbe und grüne Stachelbeere, etwas Pomelo, Steinobst und weiße Blüten. Vor allem aber eine ausgeprägte mineralische Komponente, welche mich stark an Kalkstein und Feuerstein erinnert. Am Gaumen zeigt sich der 12-er Winkl mit mittlerem Körper, kräftigem aber gut integriertem Alkohol (bei 13,5 %-Vol) und einer straffen, animierenden Säure. Eine feine mineralische Würze dominiert zunächst, danach folgen Aromen von gelben Früchten, Mirabelle, Granny-Smith-Apfel, Kiwi und Pomelo. Eine feine Extraktsüße begleitet den langen Abgang.

The nose shows good fruit, plenty of citrus with mineral and hints of grass. This is light bodied on the palate with good concentration and ok finesse. This is clean and fresh. The long finish shows good acidity.

One of the best SB I've ever had. Stone structure, more tropical fruit than green notes, on the nose it's delicate, restrained. Very long finish. Works best with food. I tried it with spaghetti carbonara and it was really good match.

Never been a big fan of Sauvignon but this bottle was a pleasant surprise. Pretty rich wine with excellent combination of fruits and minerals. Good acidity, good lenght and enjoyable on its own or with rich seafood or alternatively with white meat.

Far too young at the moment, missing now the balance, but all the components are there (and important, no excessive suavignon). Wait a year for some points more.

Wow! This is the kind of wine you want to buy by the case. Always a great value wine, the Winkl is nothing short of spectacular in 2012. You'll be wondering where that bottle went when you open the next one. Gorgeous nose of grass, mint, apricot and peaches, echoed on the palate with some lovely salinity. The depth and freshness are amazing. It's completely dry but somehow reminds me of Sauternes. Balance is absolutely spot-on with lip-smacking acidity. And it's pure, oh so pure. Get this, you won't be disappointed!
