This was really good; opened about an hour ahead of dinner; the nose was soaring on first glass with red berry fruits, anise, tar, tobacco, mint, rose and lilac, and damp earth. The palate is on the big side and certainly holds some heat from the vintage, but it is reasonably balanced and the fruit continues to shine. Long finish and other than a touch a heat it is impeccable.

Rinaldi vertical at Franco’s house: Served double blind. As wine number 5, during the blind tasting, the opening’s nose was very similar, for freshness and the intense briny note, to the number 3 (2015 Brunate) but very different from apparently much older wines (1-2) that then we discovered being 2011 Rinaldi. With air, a shameless strawberry, some liquorice candy hints and little orange peel arrive. Mouth is elegant but not longer like 2011 so it remains two steps below. Probably not at his peak, whereas 2011 it is. 93

A ripe and rich but not quite heady nose with Morello cherry, tar, balsam, spice and roses. On the palate, it's midweighted and straightforward, hitting the classic Langhe notes but lacking nuance. It's broad, fleshy, and supple with excellent spice and florals, more dark cherry fruit not quite getting toward plum. Quite long on the back end with some balsam and Amaro notes. This is a wine that speaks of its place, but speaks as much or more so of its vintage. It certainly could not be mistaken for much other than Barolo, and it is a success for 09, but this is a cute Labrador puppy Barolo that IMO will not make old bones. At peak, and while I do not think it will fall off a cliff anytime soon, I also highly doubt it will improve. I would consider drinking sooner rather than later and enjoy it for what it is. A pretty yummy if not profound forward wine with lovely perfume.

Not bad, but not as compelling as the price tag warrants. My second Rinaldi after a disappointing 2000 Brunate Le Coste which did not shine served double blind with other regions. Barolo never shine in my tasting group when in a mixed flight. This bottle is pretty and very drinkable. Soft red fruit and florals on the noise, it is elegant but austere. The palate was tannic for 30m but improved with air adding some silkiness. I’d rather spend my $400 on a Vosne Romanee 1er on most days though. You get more nose for your 💵.

A ripe nose with dark cherry nebbiolo fruit walking up to but not yet getting plummy, florals, tar, and violet. Full bodied rich and broad, but holding ti together quite well for the vintage. Still youthfully firm and tannic but with enough flesh and fruit to carry it. Some licorice , tar, and more ripe fruit. There's a little heat on the back end, but overall a success for 09. Finishes long with some medicine cabinet and amaro like notes. I suspect this will hold for some time, but I am not certain it will improve.

This was delicious. Drank after 4 hour decant; K’s birthday dinner at Asti. Much more in balance since the last bottle we opened. Nose was roses, bright cherries, licorice. Like eating the best red rose I’ve ever put in my mouth, lol! Can definitely go a lot longer. No need to hurry.

Stood up for months, sediment was well settled for Barolo. Pale ruby, slight bricking typical for youthful nebbiolo; aromatic, red cherry, prominent roses and floral, faint herbal spice, elegant and pretty but with a faint chewy fig component; palate is light bodied, high tannins are still youthful, red and black cherry, medium-high alcohol (14%) which shows the warm year but doesn't come across as overly hot, fruit-forward through the midpalate, some black fruits and slight tar towards the finish; clean and focused medium length finish with some tannin. The nose on this is really pretty and the wine is an honest representation of the vintage, which is overall pretty good and enjoyable now and over the next decade but not one of the top vintages for Rinaldi. 93 4 hrs decanted: Nose is still fabulously integrated, complex, elegant, red fruited; palate shows a bit more tannin, slightly darker black cherry; finish is still medium length, which is a bit shorter than desired for a wine of this caliber. 8 hours decanted: With homemade agnolotti del plin, this was an incredible pairing. Really well balanced, complimented but did not overwhelm the food, and no alcoholic heat at all. Incredibly elegant and smooth. After dinner, the last glass reverted to what I tasted before at 4 hours decanted, not quite as effortless and smooth but still a very good wine.

Perfect cork. Wine was stood up for many months and so crystalline on a double decant for sediment. First sip was electric, 96+, with vivid ripe red cherry fruit (savory, sweet, and sour), precise acidity and some tar/tannin on the finish. Over time the next two hours, the wine picked up a little more sweetness (black strawberry) which I didn't love, and the VA become pretty pronounced (or I just didn't notice it on the first sip). The VA never dissipated and became the wine's biggest detractor to me (but not to the person next to me who does not know what VA is... ignorance is bliss?). The wine couldn't hold onto that first sip magic, but still, the wine disappeared fast! Too fast. 93-95
P.S. does seem that the wines I bought from different sources do show slightly differently in terms of ripeness/darkness. I hope the rest of my bottles are from this batch!

93+. PNP, decant for sediment. This bottle tasted very ripe, like an sweet California pinot mixed with nebbiolo tar and leather on the finish. I picked up bottles from a few different sources, and this one showed differently from others. The cork was fine, but was it stored in a warmer environment or something? Bottle variation? Not sure. Still a good one, but disappointing to my expectations - which are now lowered.

I’m not getting roasted or stewed fruit here- makes me wonder whether others had heat damaged bottles? Lovely and haunting nose with light cherry fruit and medium tannins...still on the upswing it seems.

Love the wine. PNP and some sediment floated into the decanter, which I think gave some added grip. Crystalline cherry, strawberry, some floral notes/rose. At some point, I did think to myself, "the fruit is a bit roasted" that's what that guy was talking about!.. but for the most part I felt the wine was just vibrant deep red fruited without being roasted. I did save some in the fridge for Day 2, and the wine was worse off.. felt flat. My fridge has some temperature control issues, so I don't blame the wine... but I wonder about the wine's structure to go the long distance and have updated my drink dates.

This time decanted 3 hours and the sandy depot removed, my last bottle and of course the best, nose balsamic notes and dark cherries, taste more seductive and just a slight aftertaste snap of tannic notes.

Quite mature with balsamic notes and forest floor. A wonderful wine - but a bit disappointed with the stewed notes in a wine, known for it’s elegance. I know it’s a warm vintage but it is not the first time for me with mature Rinaldis. In general, you might want to drink these within the first 10 years. I do.

Like others has noted, sandy depot, decanted but not through a filter, anyhow brillant color, deep red with a tiny brownish halo, nose cherries, some balsamic notes too, aftertaste very delicate and a fresh tannic afterglow, yummy, still one to enjoy.

Bottle had more sediment than my last one: sand like particles and a lot of fine sediment... and was only decanted for the sand like particles. The wine showed darker since the last bottle. A core of sappy red cherry remains, but is darker, smokier (the sediment), with much more dark savory complexity. Grippy tannins remain, do not see a rush in consuming this one and can see more complexity over time. Reminds me of a better version of '11 Rupestris, less alcohol, more elegant.
It's approachable now, but people with more patience than myself will be rewarded. Nose: Balsamic with dark fruit, leather, some strawberry and roses. Tannins are still present along with some nice acidity. I'd love to try this again in 3 years when I assume it'll be more open. 93++ for me

A striking and delicious young Barolo that is most likely better now than it will be with significant age. Robust, intense, unending nose of ripe black cherry laced with florals, licorice and tar. The palate is concentrated and full or ripe fruit but so well balanced -- fresh with fine, suave tannin. Simply delicious and so easy to enjoy now. Pop n pour.
The 2009s from the Langhe are growing on me, similar to 2009 Burgundy. Where many Barolo had roasted fruit notes on release, ten years on they are finding balance — even a somewhat classical form, albeit not destined for a long life. Wild strawberry, rose, and mint. Lighter weight structure but sufficient acidity to support a wonderful sense of freshness. Very good! Drink now through 2028.

Ved åpning luktet den møkkakjeller. Luftet 4 timer i karaffel. Top 10 nebbiolo for meg, ever!

PnP.....whoa.....tar, herbs, some lighter spices.....sooo aromatic....after awhile the floral and roses kicked in. This is spectacular at this stage. Obviously still time to go given the pedigree. It was in a beautiful spot. Beppe at its best in a warmer vintage. So much going on.

So complex and elegant. Sour bold fresh red berries. Delicate herbs. A meadow of roses, violets, lavender and acacia. Almonds and tar. Balance with a bit of earthy character and dusty celler on the palate. Fine tuned tannins and drinking beautiful right now. Long!

Pnp for a small glass. Similar to my previous note on the nose, balsamic, floral but more exotic, dried rose petal, tar, and soil, on the palate, acidity was more pronounced that the last bottle we had, very lingering, lots of cherry fruits too, the wine opened up much more initially than the last experience. Quite enjoyed this even for the first sip right after we opened it.

Wow, my man Beppe!! Still young, and easy to keep for the next +/- 15 years.
Decant for a bit and it will give you all nebbiolo can offer! Sweet berries, licorice, and a touch of rose, riper vintage but elegant, round body, actually quite firm acidity. Integrated tannins (could still need some food). Long finish.

Phenomenal wine. Very young and not especially complex yet - this may be something of a one note wine right now, but that one note is absolutely beautiful and worth enjoying over a few hours. There's a core of red fruit here that feels incredibly fresh and vibrant and it's augmented by gentle floral and more savoury earthy notes. There's a lot of fine grained tannin here, but also bright acidity that gives the flavours a sense of lift and energy, and I found myself going back to this wine despite a lot of older wines on the table.

HDH Bordeaux Auction; 11/9/2018-11/10/2018 (Chicago, IL): Incredibly perfumed, with some sweet red fruit on the nose. So delicate and light on the nose, and the palate carries that well too. Despite the riper vintage, there's no heaviness and weight here at all. Silky and delicate, this is one of those wines that makes it clear that it is a mistake to skip the vintage.

Violet purple color. On the nose, dried rose petals, violet, forest floor, sandalwood, floral, tar, and a touch of nicely aged balsamic vinegar. On the palate, initially more earthiness, spices and acidity on the palate, after decanting for 2 hours, it got more dark cherry fruits and a lot more tannin, a bit close down on the palate (but the palate was very nice), after an another hour, the wine revives again, getting more fruits on the palate with deep structure. What a beautiful Barolo!

Still too youthful. Earthy, herbs on the nose, will be very good but simply needs a minimum of 5 years to resolve the tannins and probably even 10 years to realize its full potential to the patient

You need to decant this wine for a minimum of 4 hrs imo. It was only at that point where you saw a nice evolution on the palate. Off the bat, the nose or cherry, herbs, tar, violets really shined. The palate thought didn’t develop until 4 hours in. Great showing but must decant. Going forward will not open my remaining bottles until at least 3-4 years. Great aging potential especially in a warm challenging vintage.

Wonderful Barolo, particularly coming from the warm year 2009. Nose is very complex with some red fruits but particularly earthy aromas like forest floor, truffles etc. Silky mouthfeel with some more red fruit aromas. Medium length aftertaste. Good to drink now but has years ahead in my opinion.

Lofthus Samvirkelag Tranen.

Really excellent. The surprise of the night since this was a hot vintage, but at this youthful stage it is remarkably fresh and structured with good mineral/soil inflection. A touch of VA but less than some of his other wines. Maybe the best '09 Barolo I've had.

Rich and high toned. A bit too young at this stage. Lots of weight on the palate but missing that 'it' factor. I was surprised that I did not care for this as I generally love Giuseppe Rinaldi.

Spectacularly perfumed: funk, earth, manor, candied berries, wet stones, bee wax, tar. Almost sweet. Some acidity, finely grained tannins. Supple and harmonious. Seducing. Although as dry as it gets, theres a kind of inner sweetness on the palate. Surprisingly chalky, and mineral aftertaste. Stunning and balanced Barolo. 95
After 3 hours out of bottle this although still young was singing. Cherry flavours, violets, balsamic notes. It's a power packed wine that will evolve with another 5-10 in bottle. But thoroughly enjoyed it tonight

Had this with 09 San Lorenzo. This wasn't showing much until about 6 hours when it began to sing. Elegant sandalwood and floral, compared to black fruit and licorice for San Lorenzo. Notably more elegant on palate. Day 2 this had a candied nose of black cherries and an awesome rich palate with a couple notches of elegance over the sibling.

Really quite confected and flaccid on pulling the cork. However with air in a decanter this started putting on weight, tannin and balance. There's still an atypical hint of ripeness running through the wine, but it's pretty spectacular with 2 hours of air.

Meaty, Beaty, big, and bouncy....... I mean fantastic! True to the '09 vintage this is a larger Rinaldi. Having said that, it is very well balanced. Loaded with dark red fruit, licorice, and rose petals. Beautiful!!!

Absolutely stunning purity and balance. Wow this is good. Somehow the 2009 vintage with its warmer profile, suits Rinaldi's traditional wine very well. Ultraclean nose of tobacco and red/dark fruits, deep underlying sweetness from the vintage, and a perfect balance. The tannins are there in usual amounts, but the sheer fruit and maturity keeps them in the background.

Barolo: Calore e ferro, selvatico, pungenza minerale e agrumata, balsamico.

This was showing wonderfully. Great structure, wonderful round and plush red berry aromas. Rather soft tannins. Much better than the last bottle I had ca. 2 years ago. Decanted approx. 3 hours prior to drinking. Can be drunk now but will stay for years.

Long!

Tasted blind, bright lively red with a very perfumed nose, lots of red fruits, young but fruit forward, a beautiful wine, best of the 3 Barolos tonight, drank with the 03 Giacosa Falletto & 11 Vajra Brioco Viole

Tannino imperioso, poi ferro, frutta.
