Simply fabulous. Poise between acid, sugar and fruit makes it drinkable with almost anything: fitted with salty cheeses, soup and smoked salmon effortlessly.

From magnum. This is an impressive wine and drinking brilliantly now. Nose is so lifted and full with ripe peaches, sweet peach nectar and some vanilla accents. The palate has so much cut and energy that the sweetness is barely perceptible. An incredible combination of concentration, sweetness and cut. Awesome stuff.

Dinner at Marc's (Marc's Apartment - Chicago, IL): From magnum. Still showing beautifully. Tons of concentration on the palate with acidity that just seems to dance on your palate. Felt very much like a 2012 Donnhoff wine with dense fruit and lively acidity. This will be a long-lived wine.

Nothing like Chicago hospitality...; 4/6/2016-4/10/2016: For specifics/descriptors, read acyso's note. Or wait for tooch/Nanda's. This is downright awesome, so much so that I stopped paying attention to the complexity and depth here, and was just drinking for the sheer visceral pleasure.

Salil does Chicago 2; 4/6/2016-4/10/2016 (Chicago, IL): #18-13, 8% abv. From magnum (yeah, that's right). Believe it or not, I had not had this wine prior to tonight. Simply put, this is great riesling. This still shows so much of the lush white fruit and racy acidity that I've found in 2012s and truth be told, this wine hasn't shut down at all. It still has those white cherries and pineapple and green apple and all manner of delicious things in full display. As I wrote earlier, I had been feeling a bit down on Dönnhoff of late, but the bottle of 97 NH Spätlese and this magnum have really brought me back to my senses.

This bottle was completely shut down. Opened and served over 2 hours and didn't change much. Surprising showing considering the other CT reviews. I'm waiting at least 5 years on mine.

Just loved this wine! Citrus fruit, a garden of White flowers, elder flowers, rowan flowers, green apples and just a hint of Honey. The palate is wonderful. Crisp and smooth acidity, perfect sweetness and some Honey, pamplemousse, oranges. Long finish... Bravo to the Dönnhoff Family:-) This wine makes me happy.

Luscious and juicy fruit is complemented by a dash of honey and raisins, but there’s enough acidity to evoke associations of the freshness and purity of a cool mountain stream. Substance - immense, finish – ever-lasting, complexity – unbelievable."

Barrel sample, intriguing wine but very hard to rate at this early stage. Nose is really exotic and tropical, lychee fruit notes, so fruity, long and fresh. Quite amazing.

Donnhoff Riesling Masterclass, with Cornelius Donnhoff (Handford Wines, London): Barrel sample provided by Cornelius Donnhoff. This is a very different wine from the other ausleses as in 2012 they had no botrytis. They chose to make an auslese out of darker, riper berries and the result is something very different. The wine is very floral, with exotic notes, pineapple, no petrolly feel. On the palate it has a lightness and balance that makes it delicious and would love to see how this will evolve. For sure a wine to taste for people who love their Rieslings!

Fascinating to taste this a few minutes after the spatlese. Very different noses, and the auslese feels lighter in a way. Lovely.
