  • Coravin'd for 2 hours. Another deeply pigmented 2005, tapering from a clear rim through a crimson transition to an opaque core. Firm but complex aromas include pan roasted herbs and sweet spices with an undertow of perfectly ripe red and black fruit. Focused and expansive on the palate, the flavors are of freshly baked cherries and cranberries that are lifted by bright, juicy acidity. The tannins are there but very well absorbed. Very long and profound. It's time to start looking at the all these '05s. Drink now through 2024.

  • Sour and dry at first. Opened up nicely after 45 min.

  • No detailed notes. A nice match paired with grilled chicken. Perhaps a bit less compelling on its own, with a flavor profile that's not in my wheelhouse as a sipper. A bit more acid / sour than I prefer. That said, I enjoyed it more than I did the last bottle 3 years ago.

  • Quite tasty. Picked up weight and blossomed after about an hour of air. Earthy, red berry, some smokiness. Well-balanced. Nice.

  • Very good, but maybe corked. DW thought that the nose was dank and musty. I didn't pick up any of that, but did think the nose was kind of flat. We both enjoyed the flavor on the palate though. Candied cherry, soft christmas spice, a little bit of smokiness. Intense acidity.

  • I don't have a lot of experience with KW wines, but opened this up anticipating something heavier to pair w. G's spicy chicken pasta. Nope, that wasnt' happening with this wine. To be more blunt, this wine sucked initially after the pop. But....air does it some favors......

On the nose, "a melange of sour funk dominates. On the palate - it's medium-light in body, and that's not bad, but it's also uncomplicated. A bit out of balanced, tilting towards acidic. Relatively smooth mouthfeel given all that, and to be fair, it does develop nicely in the glass (original score 84 points).

After some air, this turns into a decent wine, and has more style and finesse than lesser wines. I just don't care for the overall balance and flavor profile. Factoring in price, I found this to be disappointing. With another bottle in the cellar, I'm hoping that this might evolve into something more favorable with another 2 years of bottle age, though it doesn't have a lot of structure to suggest long-term development.

  • This wine as cloudy, which is kind of a distraction. I was not able to get much on the nose, swirling vigorously still did not coax much out. I had decanted 1/2 of this for about an hour and there was no difference between the bottle sample and decanted one. Very one-dimensional with a grape jolly rancher taste on the palate. Disappointed for this price and the lowest score I've given to a KW Pinot.

  • Decanted 3 hours prior to formal tasting notes.

Clear dark red in the glass. Reticent nose of earth and black pepper with a little bit of cherry. On the palate intensely acidic, almost too much so, sour cherry flavor dominates with some forest floor and spice. Medium length finish dominated by the acidity.

  • The most open of the 3 2005 KW's that I've tasted so far, with a sense of fruit that is not, in this case, hidden by underlying structure. The wine is open and very forthcoming, with an effusive nose, a blousy, round mouth, and a tangy, slightly metallic length that's very persistent, if not "long". Notes of canned cherries and candied orange peel; slightly reduced. I found the wine too full to take after a big glass, and had to work on glass #2.

Has little struture to resolve, but the flavors need some time to settle down a bit.

  • WIne 5 of our tasting party. Suprised me as I expected a fruit bomb, I got a very refined almost burgundian style wine. pronounced fruit, some forest floor & spice. Very tasty, a nice finish for the nght, although I preferred the Drouhan.

  • Enjoyed this one with some fellow members of the Int'l Food & Wine Society in Jacksonville, FL. Excellent structure and just the right amount of fruit. Needless to say, it didn't last long.

  • I really wanted to like this one. Opened it up and had that yeasty almost cheesy aroma. The nose was closed - a touch of sour cherry but not much else. The wine was a bit cloudy - it was shipped to my retailer about a month before and rested in my own cellar a few days before opening. Young and vey closed. Not revelaing much - I hope it gets better. In the mouth, tart and acidic. Some sour cheries (again) and a touch of blue cheese (Roquefort, or Gorgonzola Dolce - or Danish Bleu but definitely not Stilton). Finishes clean. Maybe I'm not one for what the pundits are calling the "elegant" and "more traditional" Oregon vintage - being the 2005. Perhaps this needs to age and I'm just one for the dense jam packed Cali-Pinots. But as I said, I really wanted to like this one. wanna a number? rate this 95 on hope but an 85 in reality.

  • Served as part of a tasting at the Wine Club in SF. Bottle was opened approximately 1 hour. Purple colored; lots of spice but the taste and finish was just OK. Didn't really do anything for me.
