1998 Burgundy Grand Cru Dinner (Cheng Hu Tien, Keong Saik Road, Singapore): Very nice indeed – like chalk and cheese compared with the rich, powerfully 1998 assertive Leflaive Pucelles that was served alongside, but every bit as enjoyable. This wine had a very pretty nose - lots of chalky notes, a little layer of butter and cream, then sweet white flowers and red apples. Really attractive. The palate had a very lively feel, with a lovely sense of precision and focus that was missing from the Pucelles. There was an almost laser-like definition to it, with a beam of freshness and a good spine of minerality running through its green apple and lime flavours. Not quite as deep and generous as the previous wine, but still quite nicely satisfying. Decent finish too, curling away with a little steely tail. A nice wine, drinking pretty well now, but it also has the balance to age more over the next few years if it is free of premox.

starting to age. This was Ok, but getting gold colored and definitely needs drinking. A shame since old vintages of this wine from the 80s are still brilliant

out of a case of 12 bottles, 3 were in perfect shape, drinking fine and the remaining 9 were clearly premoxed. Same bottling lot, same provenance. I say it's either in the barrel or it's the container. No way it's anything else than a sanitary issue of some description.
Very annoyed.

After a long week, I decided to pull the cork on another bottle. Straight from the cellar, the cork was sightly pushed in. The foil was also a bit torn around the neck, peculiar. It appeared to be a slight issue on the bottling line. In any case, the wine was clearly different than the 4 previous bottles out of the same case. This wine smelled very young, and the oak is still very apparent on the nose and palate. The acidity is marked and refreshing, the texture and taste can only be burgundy, but I'm a bit suspicious about the wine because it tastes so much younger than previous bottles. As though it was another chardonnay completely. Still, textbook cote d'or from a cool vintage. Just unsure it's actual clos des mouches. Good wine, but not great.

Perfect corks on all 3 bottles. Enjoyed over several hours. N: Deep with honey, a touch of oxidation, musk. P: mature burgundy with more honey following through, wax, lanolin, vanilla, and lemon. 1998 will never go down as a keeper, but at 15 years of age, this wine is pleasurable to drink if clear signs of oxidation are not off putting. I wouldn't necessarily say premoxed given it has 15 candles. 13.5%abv Drink (this wine is in its twilight, it's nice, but not mind blowing)

Mediium straw color. Nose of citrus, touch of oak with a nice amount of minerality and stone on the nose and palate. Medium body. Well balanced and enjoyable.

Golden color. Nougat, apple, honeyed darker notes. Round in the mouth. This bottle is verging on being oxidized, but yet remains to give some pleasure. Certainly more advanced than a bottle drunk in Nov 08. I would not hold these any longer. Enjoyable now, even if partially oxidized, but limited lifespan ahead.

Golden, medium bodied wine. Apples with some peach on the nose. Kiwi? Starts with apples, ends with some mineral and citrus on palate. Good finish, well balanced.

Nice deep golden color. The first thing that hits you as you smell this Burgundy is the toast and honey which then moves into ripe apples and pears. As you drink it a bit of citrus balances out the wine nicely. Moderate finish. Overall an outsanding wine.

All caramel and acidity, touch of lemon. Really not nice. Too old for me.

Deep golden yellow color. Stoney minerals and honey combine with acidic finish on this classy chardonnay. 50+5+12+16+7=90
