XVIII Salón de los Mejores Vinos de España -Peñín; 10/23/2017-10/24/2017 (IFEMA - Madrid): Less impressed than the first time. It maintains that depth and those smokes, but in my modest opinion it has lost some of that initial magic. I noticed it more directly, too marked by yeast and wood on the nose. Always better on the palate where that long final bitterness is the undisputed champion. I could not find out when this Amontillado was bottled.

The nose is elegant and subtle, but also very intense, hard to grasp. Earth and peat, prominent woody notes, candied oranges. In the mouth, this was way too intense for me. The alcohol, the acidity, the oily thickness, the overwhelming attack of all kinds of aromas. This is a wine to sip just a glass of over an entire evening. It's a fantastic wine, but nothing to just drink. This requires lots of attention.

2014 release. Burnished gold colour. Some caramel, roasted nuts and sea salt on the nose. Totally dry. Quite fresh for an amontillado, lots of saline acidity to balance the rich toasty nut and burnt sugar palate, the finish continues for an age. It is a little hot to finish, otherwise this is excellent.

A wine that is just astonishingly good, and a Sherry that defies classifications. On the nose, there is a remembering of a world class Cognac, or an Armagnac of great origin. A very precise, suave but characterful mouth makes a polished experience. This is as close to 100 points as a wine can be.

Drank at Iberica It is amazing how few people drink Sherry any more. Serving to a table of eight people only one person said that they drank it regularly. I have to admit I am also quite new to this and therefore will not score until I understand better. The fun of learning :-)

October 2012 bottle. Aromatic complexity that's pretty amazing, really. Dried fruits and nuts and toffee and sea salt, harmonious and detailed, pungent but also with finesse. Wonderful Amontillado.

Bottled 18.10.12 Intense yet pricey Amontillado, nutty to the bone on the nose at the oxidised side with a depth you can't deny. Sightly smoked. Toffee touch on the palate with a long bitter finish that I really love. Matched cured Roncal cheese.

My favorite of the bunch, this seems more like a palo cortado to me, with walnuts and some orange to go along with what's left of the flor character. A bit hot and quite powerful.

Not for the light hearted, heavy, a touch rough on the finish, big lots of density and palate presence. We had these about 9 months from bottling so not sure if the quality has been compromised as these need to be enjoyed within 6m of bottling. In a ny case, really interesting but for us of the 4 the Dos Palmas wins the battle with its aromatics. 89-90

Dry but round. Obvious sherry-notes and lovely length. Close to 60sec. It's all about the walnuts.

Wow, wow y wow.

Amber gold colour; gorgeous intense nose of burnt caramel, nut kernel. Spice; very intense oxidative palate. Dryness on the finish. Intense.
