[Courtesy of G&L SIM] Very dark color, purple edge. Blackberry blackcurrant bouquet with hints of earth, mineral, cassis, kirsch, licorice, black cherry compote, pepper & fully absorbed oak notes. Full, intense, deep, ample, concentrated, lush, sweet, multilayered black fruit flavors, superbly endowed & seamlessly integrated with plenty of ripe smooth tannins, silky extracts & fine acidity; wonderful harmony, outstanding mouthfeel. Long opulent & satisfying finish. A well-kept bottle at its peak.

An intensely ripe Aussie shiraz, boasting a nose of game, spice, blackberry, blueberry, coffee, anise, and earth, with some slight burned/scorched notes (reduction?). The palate is similar, but with blackberry and blueberry liqueur notes dominating, with spice and anise. The alcohol (16.5% on the label) is very well integrated, only lending a slight warmth on the nose and finish. I don't tend to like this style of wine, and I could not handle another glass of this, but it was fascinating and enjoyable glass to sip on. In a good place at the moment, and I would drink this sooner rather than later.

Second bottle in two years. Almost the same notes as the first bottle. A contained alcohol nose with Liquorice and Blackberry. Oak and Some heated spice which dissipates after a few sips. Thick texture and decent length finish.Powerful. Not a wine for everyone as it is "in your face". Not sure if I'm a fan of Shiraz. Will have to try a few more.

An excellent, over the top, Aussie Shiraz. Big, bold, (somewhat extracted) blueberry throughout, & some eucalyptus / herbal notes on the finish. Very well balanced, not a whole lot of wood here. This won our blind Syrah/Shiraz tasting among 4 wines. Great QPR.

Last bottle I gave it a 90...this time an 89 but here's why. It's equal to the last bottle and its good, but that grape juice taste was just to dominate to ignore this time. It was there last time as well but right out of the bottle I just get welches grape juice. Eventually a little oak pops out as well, but they all come together in a nice little aussie syrah thats actually kinda nice. In the end its a nice backyard in the pool kinda wine. Enjoyable!!

Popped and poured on day one. Not much initial nose. Ripe plum was initial feel on the tounge. Some alcohol but not as much as expected for 16.5%. Nice for the price but nothing special on day one. This is the second bottle of these I have had and it stayed true to form. Red hot 16.5%, if anything over done and kills the wine in the early stages. This is a very full-throttle style of wine, and those who like their red wines restrained and subtle will probably dislike this. This had a nice nose of berries and liqueur. Tons of black fruit gushes on the palate, picking up some subtle spice notes on the finish. Has great body and a very nice mouthfeel. The alcohol is gargantuan at 16.5% and there was a bit of heat on the finish, but it was managed remarkably well. Tempted to buy more and see how a couple years of bottle age affects this, though its not so clear to me how it will evolve. Overall, this is a good QPR wine (at the $16 I paid) if you like the style.

Gave it 2+ hours of airtime which is necessary with Mr. Ringland’s wines. Dark purple colored. A complex nose of Asian spice (Szechuan in particular), blackberry liqueur and boysenberry, which lead to an intense, full-bodied palate. The initial Szechuan notes reminded me of Szechuan beef at Su Hong’s.

16.5% ABV. Dark garnet in the glass. Sweet liqueur nose of blackberry and boysenberry. Ripe black fruit on the palate. Lush and somewhat sweet with a suggestion of tea. Little heat in the finish. Pretty good value.

The fact that this Shiraz is this good in such a terrible Australian vintage is really remarkable. Unlike other Aussie Shriaz whose alcohol is so overpowering, the Ringland manages to balance the heat with fruit and smooth tannins. This wine is very well made. It features a beautiful creamy vanilla nose with sweet red fruit. The midpalate continues in with typical Aussie fashion with big smooth mouthfeel and sweet prune. The finish is mid-long, and unfolds with layers of tobacco and cedar. I highly recommend this wine as a great value whose quality far exceeds it's price.

This wine is a big boy. Hedonistic, sweet cherry, chocolate, toasted oak, all in a whopping 16.5% ABV package. The alcohol is completely held in check however with no heat whatsoever. Thick mouth-coating and opulent with a lingering finish. Great value at $16.

Dense dark violet/purple colour. Potent, intensly perfumed nose of dark fruits, with complex aroma's of coffee, mocha, pepper, freshly grated nutmeg. More, more, more, it just grows and grows! Full on palate of darker fruits, some lovely balanced slipperly oak. Long finish somewhat hot (a gargantuan 16.5% alcohol, but coping well for the time being!), leaves lovely raisiny aftertaste for ages...

I'm a little surprised by some of the love given this wine on CT- altho it probably delivers what you might expect - high alcohol, concentrated syrupy black berry fruit, a liquer-like finish. I sometimes like this style, but prefer it when made with higher-end fruit and oak (or drink cognac!) - this comes across as kind of cheap to me. Easy pass.

Additional note: Tasted my last bottle four days later: Going strong, even better than first day. Strong, deep and savory espresso notes have emerged on the nose. Otherwise similar flavors and aromas; super opulent w/ additional notes of bitter black tea, giving additional shape and definition to the wine. Incredible for the price, though this wine will certainly have its critics.

Why do I ever pay $30, $40+ when I want pure sweet fruity opulence, when i can bag this for a song? Inviting aromas of sweet cherries nicely balanced with toasty oak. Attacks the palate much the same but w/ extreme depth and concentration. Awesome, full midpalate and lengthy finish. This gives the '06 quite a run for its money. I willl be stocking up.
Drink now or hold another year and hope some nuances emerge. 91+ -JRS

I didn't have much, but it did remind me of a thorn clark shotfire. Enjoyable for what it is, my family really enjoyed it, more then me. Several thought it was exceptional. (note to self, keep the Lillian syrah to my self). Enjoy!!!

Easy pass.

The best word to describe this wine is tasty. Huge over-extracted australian style with tons of fruit and not much else. A little too sweet for my taste, but still very enjoyable.

Huge wine. After dinner with a 15 year old cheddar and a triple cream German blue. Amazing pairing.

Lots of licorice and a super long finish. Also a mix of blackberry and blueberry.

91+ -JRS
