  • Brilliant light to medium red, fading to mahogany. Nose is herb, sour cherry, licorice, mint - enticing. Terrific concentration of raspberry, cherry, rose, cherry candy and baking spice. Almost medium body, refreshing, and the grip arrives just at the same time as the aromatics. This is so detailed and fine in the mouth! Brava!

  • Brilliant as ever. Light, ethereal, sophisticated, rose petals meets racy/sexy P. It’s just such reliably good barolo and a happy trade between classic and contemporary. I prefer without doubt the traditional producers, with the exception of Chiara boschis. Galloni’s notes are pretty spot on for these wines. Drank after an 09 oddero vigna mondoca (which I preferred, but that doesn’t detract from how much I like this wine) and paired with the best osso bucco and risotto Milanese I’ve had (oddero a slightly better food match). I will hold my remaining bottles of this for c.5-7yrs/their c.20th birthday.

  • Tasted at the winery after the 2017 baroli- a revelation! Stunningly complete from nose to finish with a complex rich and fulfilling mid palate. I’m discovering that 9-15 years from harvest is where I most enjoy “mature” Barolo. Certainly this isn’t overly tertiary but it is a fully resolved perfumed and complex Barolo with a full body and so much to enjoy. We poured with Coravin which threw a lot of sediment.

  • Tasted against a 1997 Barolo. Good nose with red berries, on palate you feel the tanins and fruit, but not yet as smooth as an older Barolo. In my view this one will still get a lot better over the next years and become a 93 or 94! Not in a hurry!

  • A 2009 via nuova with a cannubi cork. Didn’t taste like VN but did taste like cannubi! Chiara said they probably put the wrong label on. Delicious cannubi but (light) and didn’t seem ready and/or was still tightly bound.

  • Amazing nose. Light on its feet. Lighter than i expected. La Morra esque. Elegant. Balanced. Fairly long finish. Rose petals. Decanted 4 hours but last glass the best. Drinking well now - why wait any longer...? Decent at £50 DP. Would buy again.

  • Quite firm tannins. Dry fruit. Acidic. Long finish.

  • Really quite lovely, and amazingly approachable, although food is still needed to brace the tannins. Medium-bodied with ripe cherry and a hint of balsamic, fine floral notes, some earthiness, toast and spice. Dark coffee on the finish. Really well-balanced. Doesn't taste like it's made for the extremely long haul, although I wouldn't be surprised if it makes beautiful old bones.

  • I continue to marvel at how approachable this wine is at such a tender age though that has been my experience with the '09 Baroli thus far. This is quite lovely with light menthol and cedar aromatics, just a bit of tar on the nose and the finish. Vibrant red fruit, fine tannins. Decanted four hours and could have used the whole day. Fairly primary and straightforward but cannot expect more at this stage.

  • Vinturi'd and decanted all day and it needed it. Was bracingly tannic on first opening, mellowed some over the ensuing 9 hours. Quite a lovely wine - rose petal, tar and menthol nose, bright tart cherry fruit with tobacco, tar and earth tones. Lengthy finish. Obviously, it will be better over time but still - this is lovely and so long as you decant, it is quite enjoyable. I did taste it day two and it had gained depth - still tannic but certainly not out of balance.
