  • Nose: Dry fruits. A little bit of nutty & honey.

Palate: Medium-bodied with a light texture. Bitterness and moderate acidity without concentration or complexity.

A much better flavor after a few days.

  • Finde de Clasicones; 10/15/2021-10/18/2021 (Madrid - España): From a bottle already opened. This time the absence of nuts essence is compensated with notes of coffee nugget and chocolate. Somewhat abrupt anyway. Moderate sweetness and quite persistent for what it is. Less exciting than at other times and yet tasty and typical.

  • Ending August by the Sea; 8/22/2020-8/26/2020 (Alicante - España): It is becoming a classic element in my visits to this bookstore.
Preserve that sweetness with notes of apricot and dried fruits. Quite acid, candied and long. Can't ask for much more for what it is. A little delight to end the day.

  • The Grapes of Titan's Wrath (Alicante - España): Served by the glass from a newly bottle. Sincerely speaking I didn't find it as much sweet as some colleagues pretend. Just a question of taste. Mahogany dominates on the nose with hints of almonds and nuts. Moderate complexity as follows on the palate, decent persistence, quite savoury for what it is. Until the last drop.

  • Quite acidic. Nice rancio nose, but doesn't follow through in the palate. Nutty, and fairly simple.

  • Unusually sweet for a Verdelho. The flavours I expect of a Verdelho were hard to spot, though there was something there after some time with the glass. Perfectly drinkable, but not sufficiently different from Oloroso sherry, which for this quality would be much cheaper. Has not persuaded me that my general doctrine "Only buy Madeira if at least 15 years old" is wrong.
Shared the bottle over several days with friends while staying on the island, and opinion didn't change.

  • Much sweeter than a Verdelho should be. I'm much more used to a drier style of Verdelho, such as the Henriques & Henriques 10-year or 15-year. More like a Bual, but not quite.

Decent palate with the sweetness balanced out by the big acidity. The wine went fairly well with the ripe cow's milk washed rind cheese, and the ripe goat's milk cheese. If you like your verdelho on the sweeter side, this wine will suit your palate.

  • N.V. Justino's Madeira Verdelho 10 Years Old; 19.5 pabv. Importer: Broadbent Selections; bottling date unknown. Medium-deep reddish brown with plenty of tears. Vivid high-toned smoky pungent sweet neutral honied scents wth a hint of ethyl acetate; attractive lacquer notes also. Round and energetic entry with redwood flavor; medium finish with typical sweet-dry balance of this variety. Not a bad idea to decant or allow to sit in glass for an hour or two. A strong showing after several weeks on the counter top; on opening this was coarser and showed some heat but that's all resolved. Some CellarTracker users have filed this under the producer name 'Justino Henriques, which is nowhere found on this bottle that I can see.

  • Bottling date not specified but clearly very recent. Beautiful medium orange gold shot with amber (like an old Sauternes or Tokaji); discreet nose, fresh style, subtle note of candied fruit, light caramel, sea breeze and a floral top note; the medium-dry palate displays admirable concentration and power, peach, mouthwatering acidity and quite austere, salty concentration; very dry finish with lemon fruit. Impressive. Not everybody's cup of tea but I like it a lot.

  • I am not that familiar with Madeira, so this note needs to be considered in that context. I am not one for listing extensive, specific flavors, although noting this, this wine was flavorful. A bit sweet, but not very much so. You could drink this as an aperitif or a dessert wine. I tried it both ways and preferred the dessert wine mode. Keep in mind the extra alcohol -- 20% -- this can leave you a little under the weather on the next day. I have another. No rush to drink it, although I don't think it will improve very much.

  • Monthly Tasting Group LTB 2013-03; Madeira (by DJ): Coffee, butterscotch and clove in the bouquet. On the palate tangerine and raisins are up front. Dried tropical fruits, caramel. Good balance between acidity and sweetness. Fairly elegant style. Mild and long finish.

  • Clear amber colour. Strong nose of orange and its zest, plums and figs. Nearly dry taste, high in alcohol and powerful, very good pre dinner wine

  • Amber brown.
A balanced baked fruit nose with loads of figs. Slight rubber, nuts and leather.
Really comes alive on the palate. Sweetish but finely balanced - pretty refreshing even - medium bodied feel. Baked fruit, charcoal, nuts, leather, cinnamon, ginger and dried lemon peel. Good acidity through the lengthy aftertaste.
A fine well-balanced Verdelho. Refreshing stuff.

  • Bottled 5 July 2001 and marketed by Kopke. Nuts and raisins, caramel, depth and freshness; substantial, not very elegant but flavoursome and juicy, lovely acidity; good length. A correct wine.
