Young, but already quite the tasty treat, the wine is full bodied, luscious, round, and loaded with sweet, juicy black raspberries, peppery kirsch and fresh herbs.

2012 Chateauneuf du Pape (Trent's): Purple/ruby in color. The nose is spicy with black cherries and black raspberries. This is a big bold wine. Interesting contrast to the prior wine. Lots of black raspberry and black cherry fruit. Big tannins. Depth. Should improve a whole lot in a few years as it sorts out. The groups WOTN, mostly because no one hated it. One first, 2 seconds, one third.

From the famed La Crau lieu dits—but from the western end of the parcel. Rounder, silkier tannins from the sand-heavy soils standout in this substantive wine. Gorgeous, layered notes of black cherry, game, roasted coffee, bay leaf, and savory herbs can be found on both the nose and palate. The finish is gratifyingly lengthy and is lightly dusted with cocoa powder and shot through with minerality. It's crafted from 100% old vine Grenache, planted in 1898, this CdP is a showstopper.

Tom brought this over for wine industry dinner in a magnum. Was the cdp of the night showing complexity of flavors and long finish.
Two days later it became quite “mevushal” and fell apart. Loved it on night 1.
Still I think I have a preference for the nuisanced northern Rhône

No formal notes, but this wine needed 30-60 minutes in a decanter and was darn good. Nice beautiful red fruits with spice and minerality.

- Crimsom color with fast forming legs and aromas of raspberry and strawberry. It's somewhat balanced with a medium/full body. Oily texture.

Barrel sample - medium ruby color; lifted, anise, baked cherry nose; hedonistic, very ripe cherry, black raspberry, anise, garrigue palate; medium-plus finish (100% Grenache, aged in demi muids) 93-94+ points
