  • One of a pair, the other being Brouillards, bought a few months ago. Lovely gentle coffee nose, then strawberry and a touch of anise. Great balance and a huge long elegant finish. A much better wine than I expect for £45 from Burgundy. Fully mature now it has the tannins and balance to plateau for 5 years. Enchanting. Good find.

  • A nice Volnay 1er, all elegance. Iridescent, bright red purple. Expressive notes of blackberries, blackcurrants, spices and cherries, with pine needles and cool, rocky minerals. In the mouth, more racy acids than you expect from the bouquet. Below medium weight, although it may fatten up with more cellar time (ideally, 5+ years). Presently, it calls for food to offset and balance out the acidity. Precise, pure and fine. Largely black and some blue fruit around a long seam of minerals. Satiny texture. Fine grained but firm, strict tannins on the finish. Good persistence and length.
