An Evening with Friends (J&J's): From magnum, double decanted two hours before dinner. Light color. Melon, pear, papaya and banana aromas. Tropical fruit on the palate as well, finishing with good length. 91-92 pts. (J&J)

From a magnum. No formal notes. Nicely aged, I'm not sure this will get any better. Medium bodied with precise acid and a small amount of textural grit. Classic chardonnay notes.

En magnum. Effectively popped and poured and drunk over two hours. The wine would have greatly benefitted from decanting. Tart acidity, great minerality, lots of citrus and some apple. An outstanding food wine. In this format, it easily has another 10-15 years of great drinking ahead of it.

Tropiske frukter på duft; mango og pasjonsfrukt. Begynnende modningsaromaer, plommesyltetøy. Et lite smørpreg. Men frisk i munnen, med god syre. Lang ettersmak med delikat bitterhet.

Similar in color to previous note but the palate is different. No more sharp acid taking the forefront. This is now really firing for me with that great balance of acid and fruit. I pick up some honey as well as tart citrus and the finish is great. Better now than a year ago. Just Coravin'd a glass to check on this last bottle but think it's time to go grab one more glass....
13.5% abv. Light straw in color. Moderately expressive aromas. Subtle but nuanced flavored of citrus, flowers and stone. Taught and focused with excellent mouthfeel. Lingering aftertaste.
A local vineyard one good!

Copain Dinner With Wells Guthrie In The OC (The Loft @ Montage, Laguna Beach CA): Opened from mag in prep for dinner this evening, poured at room temp of 66f. Tasted next to the 13, and FWIW, the alc on this 12 is listed just over a point higher than the 13 (13.5% vs 12.4%, respectively). This 12 is more creamy, spicier. Apple, mandarin orange, zesty and spicy lime skin. Really long finish....over dinner, showed the flash, creaminess and overall profile that seemed to hit the target with many at the tables where I was seated. For sure next to the 13, the 12 is far better put together and ultimately we will see if the 13 passes it with more age but right now, the 12 seems king.

Green apple and lime notes, with a nice touch of minerality holding it together. Refreshing acidity. Oak is quite far in the background, but provides a bit of light caramel on the finish. Yet another high quality effort from Copain-- reminds me of a well done cru Chablis. Just fantastic to see this kind of treatment coming out of Cali.

Only note on this wine? One? Screw it. I decided to double the TNs and open one of mine and get in the spirit. Very interesting here, a little Rhys-like, even a bit of Rivers-Marie Thieriot....which for me means acid and some suave, tropical/green apple and mango inflected fruit yet with some lemon lurking there, waiting to see if it will step forward. Granted, I opened this up a short time ago so it's taking a chill now and will have a few hours of slow ox before I revisit.....so to run forward a day and with no food and a pre-lunch palate, figured I could dial in the wine and get a real good sense of it. Light chill, this is really quite beautiful today. It retains that thread of richness that I spoke to yesterday, maybe what would be a bit of light caramel, lots of yellow apple, lime skin and light brushing of green banana. What I find intriguing is the emergence of a distinct saline/mineral note in the base of the wine, which carries in and through the finish. It's this energy that buffers up on the fruit and creates a cool complete profile. And FWIW here, I am not sure of the oak treatment this sees but I'd say it provides that richness that pulls in the yellow apple, yet there is clearly no oak in the aromatic, no vanilla bean nor coconut. Really enjoy this bottle, and I would see this softening some and pulling together even more in the next couple of years.

Light gold in the glass. On initial pop n pour this was very acidic. Too much so for me and I like acid in my wines. Day 2 provided far more balance and beautiful fruit flavors of white peach and tart apple and a nice finish with the right touch of acid to make you salivate. Just don't expect the same on day 1 or the first few hours. For my taste decant if opening in next 2 years for a few hours.

IPOB San Francisco...final event...lots of great wines, short notes... (San Francisco, RN74): Color was a pale yellow/gold. Nose was crisp with floral notes and crushed rock. Palate was citrus, lemon, lime zest, white flowers and mineral notes. Nice wine, drinking well but lacked some depth (IMO). Hard to say that it will improve much

Citrus and stone, tart yet rich. Clean, crisp and savory. Should continue to improve for awhile.

Agree with MD, this is a well-structured, moderately fruited, mineral-driven chardonnay. Great at the table or alone.
