Tobacco in da house, a bit rustique, aging notes of balsamico - this seems to be on it's way down. My first experience with this wine, though ... From PB #X-Pensive Winos go Cab

18c; no decant; clear, bricked red; restrained nose; this wine's great metallic quality is now its weakness, sticking out like a rusty nail as the fruit fades; I should have listened to Luigi Ferrando, when he told me my 20c cellar would be too warm for this. A sad finish; 15.

18c; no decant; luminous, clear coppered red; nose of flowers, herbs, earth, tobacco, leather; brilliant structure, with tense minerality and acidity (very tight grip); massive schist (iron), with raspberries, prominent tobacco, candy-apple; (next day tobacco and leather more prominent); has aged well; 18.

Elegant, mature. At first, quite focused and berrylike, Burgundian. Structured, noble. With air, became softer and silky, Barbaresco-esque. Quite excellent.

20c; opened bottle for two hours; clean, strawberry red; perfumed nose of barn, strawberries, pinks and spices (anise, pepper, mint); gripping, angular tannins; iron (iodine?), prominent strawberries, red-licorice, tobacco, spices (black-pepper, mint), mushrooms; nicely integrated since last tasting, and the plot (complexity) is 'thickening'; enjoyed it with a lentil stew, which tamed the edgey tannins; distinctive; should be decanted, like a barbaresco;17.5.

Translucent cherry-red color; nose of schist and iron—and flowers (think ‘gunflint and roses’); angular tannins, loads of minerals, especially iron (almost metallic with air); more like a northern burgundy than a Nebbiolo. Still could use a few more years of bottle age to soften it. 16.5
