2013 Librandi Cirò Bianco

  • While this bottle of Ciro Bianco was pleasant enough, it seems clear that its peak has passed. Our fault, we held on to it for a bit too long. We are well familiar with Librandi's whites and reds, and will continue to look for their offerings (wish they would bring more reds to the USA!).

  • Ciao, Ciro Marina and the fine folks at Librandi! This 2013 Ciro Blanco is holding up exceptionally well, and should certainly have another year or two at peak. We think it is better served a bit colder than most whites. To an American taste, it would compare to a very bright, very slight oak California Chardonnay. In Sonoma County, this Ciro is regularly stocked at Bottle Barn in Santa Rosa. As a side request to Librandi, please see if you can get more of your outstanding reds (that we had the pleasure of trying at your winery a few years ago) here into the U.S. The only place we've had a chance to try one has been at Bottega in Yountville. Thank you very much again for an excellent Blanco!

  • Crisp and moderately dry, very much enjoyed it. Also brought back memories of our visit to the winery in Ciro Marina in Calabria a few years ago - and the wonderful hospitality of the fine people who met us, took us on their tour, and set us down for a tasting of a broad variety of their offerings. While we very much like their Ciro Bianco, it was their reds that really made the day. Unfortunately, it has been very difficult to locate stores that carry their reds. Continue to hope to find some in the U.S. as time goes on.

  • second of two bottles served at Giuliana's baptism celebration. i did not have a chance to taste. after the first few glasses were served, people were asking for more. so, i assume that the wine was still showing well. will have to replace with the current vintage for the holidays.

  • One of six bottles served at casa belvedere for Ellen's baby shower. Still has interesting tropical flavors. However, integration of flavor components makes the wine more one dimensional than before. Still has some acidity. Have two bottles left. Will hold until next summer to see how it develops.

  • The color is clear deep lemon with hints of gold. The nose is clean, with tropical fruit (melon and pineapple) and citrus (lemon, lime) and medium (+) in intensity. The palate is dry, with medium alcohol, medium acidity and medium minerality. The palate is consistent with the nose. This bottling, however, appears to be a little flabbier than the 2012, and lacks its juicy freshness. There's Sherry-like oxidation and a hint of toasted almonds on the slightly bitter finish. This is a medium-bodied white wine, with only 12.6% alcohol, moderate flavor intensity and a moderately long finish. The bottle is not obviously flawed, but is so different from others I've had that I won't rate it outright. 88?

  • Christmas tree decorating party at ellen and louis' house. Shared with Louis, Ellen, Vicki, Leslie and Pat. This wine was served on the table at Louis and Ellen's wedding held at The Venetian. This bottle was surplus from the event. This bottle was another great showing of this wine. Interestingly, the profile is somewhat different from that of previous bottles. It had some additional air which my have contributed to this. No evidence of frizzante this time. Seems to have gained some complexity. In addition to bold tropical fruit, there is also some white peach. Nice crisp acidity in perfect balance with the fruit. Held up well to lightly salty posciutto. Enjoyed by all.

  • served at lori's with thanksgiving dinner. this wine continues to hold up well and paired well with the food. enough acid to hold up to the pungent flavors in a variety of dishes. was enjoyed by all the white wine drinkers in the crowd.

  • shared with pat at selkirk manor to celebrate the end of the work week. this bottle was in excess of the serving requirements for Louis and Ellen's wedding at The Venetian. this is the second bottle that we are enjoying at home. this wine shows consistent characteristics. Straw color. Very slightly frizzante. Striking lemon and other citrus flavors. Some hints of pineapple in the background. Very sturdy acidity. Holds up well to food. What did not get served at the wedding, we are enjoying as our summer wine. Very refreshing in the hot weather. But, not served too cold so as to enjoy the flavor profile. This wine will become a staple in the cellar as it is made where Ellen's in-laws are from and brings back fond memories for them of the old country.

  • One of 26 bottles served at Louis and Ellen's wedding at The Venetian. Selected this wine because it is made near the Lepore family home in Calabria and it was highly rated by others. Louis' mother particularly enjoyed because she remembered the wine from when she lived in Italy. The wine was enjoyed by all. Straw color. Very slightly frizzante. Striking lemon and other citrus flavors. Some hints of pineapple in the background. Very sturdy acidity. Holds up well to food.
