Not a proper note as drunk with friends at dinner but this is stately and correct claret that easily represents the best of why I love Bdx. Deep blackcurrant fruit. Cedar like oak. Structured and layered but not imposing. Moreish and rewarding to drink now but doubtless with another 10+ years in the tank. Good value for a little over £40 on offer.

Med Ruby Med+ intensity on the nose, very perfume after 1.5hour bottle decant. Red roses, red plum, pencil shaves, liquorice, toast, ginger spice, developing. Dry, high acidity, high tannins (velvety), med+ intensity, cranberry, tobacco, savoury, sea salt, lingering finish with a hints of caramel, med+ body, med+finish. Very elegant and balance wine.

Light to medium weight claret, savoury, slightly gravelly and a touch dilute. A decent effort for the vintage and pleasant to drink now, but not particularly good value. Should hold for a few years yet.

A good surprise and albeit still at the start of its dance this was just on point, with good fruit and well mannered wine across. Not a full note here but frankly nothing more to say than wait a bit longer and good value wine. 90

A fairly deep colour; medium weight blackcurrant fruit, fairly open and drinking well, perhaps helped by a 3 hour decant. Lacks a little structure but very good for the vintage.

Medium red colour; reasonably fresh fruit, if a little muted, a slight hardness to the palate and moderate length. A good effort for the vintage, perhaps best drunk while the fruit remains fresh. I gave this 89 points on day 1, but by day 2 it had softened up and was a little better so I upgraded it to 90.

Medium red colour; blackcurrant fruit with a slight greenness; not particularly intense and short on the finish. The weakness of the vintage is evident. Not sure if this will improve but it shows some youthful claret character now.

For the money absolutely great. It’s not about when they’re from; it’s about when you meet them (said Rob). Dark fruit and a bit Smokey. A little tart on the end but that softened after a while. Didn’t decant - best after about an hour in the bottle/glass. Would buy again.

Quite approachable, with blackcurrant fruit, typical claret elegance and reasonable weight. There is perhaps a slightly dilute character to the taste, and a little hardness on the finish. May improve in the short term, but not for long keeping I suspect.

At Wath, 2 bottles decanted an hour - translucent ruby, young; cassis dominant, few secondaries, attractive; medium, decent length and persistence, slightly thin and simple but well made and already drinking well in this light vintage, enough to it for upside but feels like a 20 year wine and not a long term keeper. In context of vintage VGI (17).

Limited notes taken. Two hour decant. Medium ruby fading to a paler ruby outer edge. Very approachable for its age with really fresh, juicy wild red and black fruit that evolved over time to develop a slightly baked fruit characteristic coupled with floral notes of fresh roses and lavender.

Excellent Paulliac but not as good as the Reserve de la comtesse. Balanced, fruity with a lemony finish. We had with Thanksgiving dinner with Brad and Amber.

If you like cassis, you came to the right place, as that is the wines dominant character. The medium bodied, wine is fresh, bright and crisp, with a spicy, sharp, red fruit finish.

Union Des Grands Crus de Bordeaux San Francisco. nose of lovely, rich fruit, red and back fruit, touch of bell pepper and currants, more of the same on the palate, friendly, east to taste, needs 3 years to peak, potentially merit another 2 points, medium/big body at best, short, flavorful finish with a touch of bitters. At $55 not for me.

2013 UGC Bordeaux Tasting (Bently Reserve, San Francisco CA): Aromatic nose with bell pepper, blackberry, blackcurrant, graphite; palate is full bodied, excellent density of black fruit, medium acid; medium finish. This is just a superb value at $55 compared to its competitors. 92-93+

UGC Bordeaux (Drake Hotel - Chicago IL): Tasting, brief note. Lighter black fruit almost showing red cherry hints. Good weight and depth for the vintage. Firm in middle, so probably slightly more ageworthy than most. 87-88 point potential?

UGC 2016 (Chicago, IL): The nose on this is very nice, if a bit restrained at the moment. Again one of the wines with pleasant red fruit and tart acids, which doesn't quite have anything in the middle to round things out. Would be more elegant if the tannins didn't finish quite so astringently.

Earth, cedar and hints of oak and blackberry emerge on the nose. On the palate, this approachable wine showcases its bright cassis character, medium body and a fresh, spicy finish. 88-90 Pts From a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot with yields of 31 hectoliters per hectare, the wine reached 13.2% alcohol. The Grand Vin represents 65% of the crop. 88-90 Pts
