Oreno always drinks well on the younger side. A very enjoyable Bordeaux blend with very nice blue and black fruits, dried herbs and a nice smooth mouthfeel, and just a touch of minerals.

This wine definitely needs air. My bad last night as I did not give it enough air. The nose is fruit, The palate is dark berries, cherry, tobacco and coffee. The finish is moderate to long.

One hour decant after running through a vinturi, the nose and palate are in alignment, with dark fruit and tobacco in the lead. This has pretty taut tannins in play with a medium bodied mouthfeel and a longer finish.

Opened and slow ox'd for 5 hours. The nose is all fruit leading to a palate of dark berries, cherry, tobacco and coffee. The finish was moderate to long and smooth. Probably in the middle of its prime drinking window with years to go.

Drank alongside the Orma 2012. This is much more approachable - ready to go from first pour but benefits from some time in the glass / decanter. The Orma is years away from being ready and I’m not sure it ever will be after this bottle (second from the case, maybe 7 months after the first)

The wine was delicious from the start with nice Bordeaux flavour profile. Lots of black fruit and a long finish. It is in a very nice drinking window though it should hold for several more years. It was a very enjoyable complement to our grilled lamb chop dinner.

Delicious and well made made Bordeaux blend that went very well with a reverse seared medium rare rib-eye.
Lots of black fruit, baking spice and even some floral and vanilla element's. Plenty of structure suggests that this wine will last another decade.
We were looking for a "big" wine to match up with the steak and the wine definitely delivered. However, there is no real hint of Tuscany here. If you can tell this apart from Washington State or Napa Valley in a blind tasting- you're a lot better than me....

Love the label, love the wine. Still relatively youthful characteristics, but in development: muscular; tannin, acidity and oak not quite completely integrated; the red fruits are pristine. Big finish. Enjoyed at a family Christmas celebration after the 2004 Oreno which was impressive at seventeen years. Enjoyed with a roasted, pesto stuffed pork loin and vegetables.

Actually quite beautiful on the nose with black cherry, earth and spices. Between medium and full bodied with black cherry along with red cherry highlights upfront. Mid-body brings in much darker blackfruit notes with blackberry and tart black cherry on the backside for contrast. Finish shows balanced tannins, earth spices, currant notes and minerals. I opened this about four hours ahead of time and in contrast to many who reported assertive tannins, I actually found this to be in extremely good balance. The mid-body showed depth and character and integration between mid-body and finish was a strength. Overall, felt that the fruit showed well, but it was balance and integration that made this wine special. Next bottle for me won't be before November 2022 (and perhaps later) as I expect this wine still has some margin for future improvement.

Medium ruby with obvious fading at rim. Nose shows clear signs of evolution. Slightly earthy and mushroomy but oak and black fruit are the wine’s core. Notes of cedar, warm milk chocolate, menthol, hints of oregano. Blackberry and blueberry. Tannins are very fine and fully resolved. Powerful, persistent acidity immediately coats the palate. Just a touch of heat from the alcohol. Flavours of milk chocolate and tart black cherry. Nose is far superior to the palate.

Impromptu tasting with 2012 Tignanello (92), Oreno (93) and Flaccianello (95).
Tignanello nice and open with great structure, but fairly alcoholic, obscuring the underlying fruit. Oreno with similar structure, yet a bit more freshness. Flaccianello - admittedly a different concept as a pure sangiovese - with more substance in its fruit. Combines force with elegance.
Tig and Oreno are very good wines, Flaccianello is amazing.

Upon opening I had a fairly good idea this wine still needs a few years of cellaring. 3 hour splash decant proved me wrong. Intense tart cherry laced with wet forest floor & loaded tannic structure. Dry! Very dry but in a style that works well. Done on such a way that's very old world style. Loved it! Will be looking for more.

Sette Ponti's 2012 version of Oreno is a blend of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot. Still youthful in all respects, it is a deep-to-opaque ruby wine that has a dense core of dark bramble fruits, black cherries, baking spices, espresso and dried herbs. Full-bodied, freshly acidic and with nicely integrated alcohol (listed as 14%), it is a muscular wine that flexes substantial tannic grip throughout the mid-palate and long finish. Give this one a bit more cellar time so that it can buff its edges. It will likely merit an even higher score in the future. Drink 2021-2030.

2012 TENUTA SETTE PONTI ORENO TOSCANA- Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot; the colour was so youthful with its dark vibrant purple; the nose had some milk chocolate and dark fruit which showed up as black cherry and blackberry; it was delightful, nicely balanced and in a real good place although still in its infancy; I noted it as the wine I brought and lo and behold, it was; prior to knowing what it was, I had it as my @1 in the blind flight; the consensus had it 4th.

Part of a 5 year Oreno vertical(09-13). This was the one that tasted different from the other 4. Initally, very chalky with fine tannins. After a couple hours it became bright and energetic. It came across as warm, just a different personality. Not overly tannic either, good potential. It will be fun to revisit.
