Tasted blind. Dark ruby purple color turning violet at the rim with a transparent edge. The nose gives off a bit of a modern take on Rioja with smoky earth on ripe dark berries. The palate is full bodied with medium plus acidity that balances the dark cherry, plum and pomegranate with secondary notes of vanilla on what seems to be a bit too much of oak. Nevertheless, everything checks out. Finishes long and savory. Drink now until 2034.

Excellent wine. A more modern (riper) style of Rioja as compared to Castillo Ygay, for example. Consumed over 2 days. Was better on day 2, which would suggest that, if you would like consume in one sitting, a long decant would be advisable.

Deep violet color, very aromatic with scents of cherry and tobacco. Opened and decanted for about an hour prior to serving. Served with chicken fajitas. Rich cherry and blackberry liqueur flavors with tobacco notes. Some have mentioned a port-like character, I didn’t sense the sweet notes of port, but from a richness of texture and blackberry flavor perspective, I appreciate the comparison.

Tasted right after La Rioja Alta's 2005 Gran Reserva 904. Very different, a lot more modern and sweeter. More dark fruit, quite jammy, blunt and big. The alcohol sticks out a little on the palate. Nice length to the finish, and very smooth and rich but overall a little heavy. 89-91

DHWine. Dark cherry-red in colour this is a well-rounded wine. Nose: licorice notes and berries. Minty notes and red/black berries, with a long finish. Excellent with or without food (tasted with blue cheese, sun-dried peppers, Spanish tortilla, ham and cured meat sausage).

Priorat, Montsant and Rioja; 9/5/2014-9/18/2014: From 75cl, P+P at the Murrieta winery in Logrono. Dark, impenetrable red/black colour, no bricking to rim. Smells dark, heavy, velvety, with fresh cigar smoke and Cabernet Sauvignon minty black cassis and pencil shaving notes. Big, serious, slightly rough, furry-tannic entry leads to an internationally-styled, thick-set muscular mid-palate. Although there's only 15% Cabernet in the blend, it is powerfully evident in the blackberry/blackcurrant finish. 14,5% alc. Impressive stuff, but on the whole I'd prefer to drink either a "proper" Cabernet-based wine, or a more supple, lithe Tempranillo. 90P(+?)

Murrieta in Madrid - New vintages (Restaurante La Cabra - Madrid): There is not sense of terroir at all. This is coming from Rioja or elsewhere. Modern concept, coal aromas. Dense, strong in the mouth. International class? No where...specially if compared it with last Shafer or Araujo. Smokie but totally four-squared. To avoid.

Needs a couple more years of storage but it already shows great potential.

Big wine and nice blend. Pretty well balanced at this point but might improve with some more age.

Stewed fruits, balanced, round oak with acidity not overwhelming. Big and completely balanced. Very impressed. One of my favorite wines of 2014. 94pts
