Powerful, tannic wine indeed. Initially cranberry, cassis, dried herbs, oak and chocolate. Developed into more leathery, chocolate and earthy notes with spicyness intensifying. Very robust, 15% alcohol. Needed a steak to pair with.

Dense cassis nose with spicy notes. Ripe and still fruity but the finish was too oaky for my liking. Maybe my tastes have evolved. I used to love Madiran.

On the nose good fruits - strong tannins, very oaky. Too heavy for my liking haven’t had such full bodied wine in a long while as been having pinot mainly. I will stick to lighter wines for now on.

Nose: Blueberries, gravel, roasted oak, chocolate, a bit of cherry and mint.
Palate: Big entry with high acidity, very noticeable alcohol and quite deep flavors. The mouthfilling but fine tannins then arrive and shut everything down for a few seconds. Then comes a subtle dark fruit character that gives way to a dry aftertaste with a coffee note. A few hours in the decanter did round everything off and made the alcohol and acid behave better.

Mittleres Bordeauxrot, leicht aufgehellter Rand.

A very dark colour; quite full and rich dark fruit, blackberry and plum, with a fairly thick texture. Ready now, but some residual tannin will keep it fresh and improving for some years yet.

I experience this wine as on its retirement. Fruit is present on the nose but barely any left in the taste. Too much taste of wet wood and alcohol. I find this unbalanced.

From a 375ml bottle. Aired in the bottle one hour before pouring. On the nose restrained dark cherries. Full bodied, supple and robust, delivering a bit restrained dark fruit/cherries with ample tannic bite and firm acidity. A little austere oak on the finish. This is a tannic beast that is still very youthful. Nevertheless a pleasure to drink.

A very dark colour; intense, dark fruit on the palate, slightly smoky and with a thick texture from tannin; however, it is very drinkable as the richness of the fruit matches the tannin. Will keep.

I bought this about 4 years ago, back when Sainsbury's stocked it at around £20...different times! Very good, classically styled (about as classic as you'll find in my cellar...).
N: Iron, ripe plum, gruff and brooding, garrigue infused, violets
P: Big, but old world big (i.e., with restraint). Dark cherry, old leather, very earthy (not much fruit). A big hit of old oak. Tannins are tamed at med+. Classy but (IMO) just a little boring.

Typical South West dense nose of tar, blackberry, licorice. Palate is very monolithic and tannins dominate.. for now. There is actually an oxidative note on the palate that I was a little worried about, but it dissipates with time in the decanter. Time brings out far more nuance, as does several hours in the decanter, with the finish gaining focus and some minerality. A small glimpse into the potential of this wine, but the remaining 5 bottles will be staying in the cellar for a while.

Magnifique.

During a France Sud-Ouest dinner. Dark purple. Rich, nose of dark fruit, some chocolate and oak. Tannins are present but relatively polished. Some heat on the finish. Good wine but I am missing the complexity here, tastes a bit like a Argentinian Malbec/CabSav blend.

Brumont's Wines Masterclass (Bouscasse et Montus) (Lavinia - Madrid): Elegance, memories of slate mineral and very ripe spiced fruit with a note of moisture that does not leave the wine during the whole tasting. Triggered acidity and a gigantic length. Rustic to say enough. Needs a boar of the kind that Obelix liked.

Perfect wine for a wintry, cold afternoon; plush fruit and robust at first, this needs 30 minutes in a decanter to loosen things up a bit. Once calmed down this is all chocolate, plums, tar and lovely tannins. Years ahead of it, of course, but really a lovely drink already. Impressive for the price.

Deep ruby red colour with purple edges. Dark berries and forest on the nose. Taste of earth, dark berries, dark plums, iron and forest. Structured tannins. Goes well with beef or game.

Decanted for an hour. A very strong nose of cassis and toffeed oak, smelling very young and frisky. The palate is also dominated by fruit and oak, with very strong tannins. This is definitely a sleeper, stick it into the cellar for at least 5 years. Still, very good now if one has a great big greasy steak to go with it.
