  • You stay with relatives, and who knows what you'll end up drinking. I must admit, these Black Box wines have made a favorable impression on me. They evidently have two varieties of Pinot Grigio, one from Italy and one from California. The one I had was the California incarnation. What struck me the most is that it shows real Pinot Gris varietal character; it isn't just a generic white wine. The color is very pale yellow; the nose is an almost imperceptible whiff of citrus. On the palate it is bit thin, but shows a lot of citrus, perhaps a bit of melon, and a nice degree of acidity and crispness, and a little smokiness along with a clean finish. More of a food wine than a sipper; I tried this with stuffed sole, and it paired quite well.
