Fried Chicken and Champagne Event: A bit oxidized, but damn, I LOVE aged Grand Dames. This was just insanely sharp and candied on the palate with a unique nose that was a bit too nutty for comfort. However, this wine just really performs and you can tell that if it’s in peak condition, it’ll be an absolute show stopper and easy candidate for WOTN.
Aged Grand Dames are really something special. Damn.

I am so disappointed in this bubbly which I probAbly should have opened 10 years ago. Oxidation was evident and only a small amount of fruit still present. I bought this in a duty free in London back in the mid to late 90s. For all I know it was counterfeit. I kept it at 57 F so not sure why it was so over the hill.

Betty's BDay (Intercontinental DTLA): Disgorged 19 Jan 96. So different after Selosse. A touch oxidative at first, but that seemed to soften with air. Showed soft creamy strawberry and nuttiness. Acidity still on point and very interesting texture. The bubbles were very soft on the palate. Very interesting wine.

Big Meat and Serious Syrah on a gorgeous summer afternoon (Westport, CT): The color on this is quite interesting - almost a light salmon/orangey pink. On the nose some oxidative notes. On the palate very different from any rose I have previously tasted, and this is by far the oldest I have ever tasted. More toasty complex oxidative notes are prevalent with the strawberry fruit more secondary. Very complex, interesting and enjoyable. Was very happy to have the opportunity to try this.
Big Meat and Serious Syrah (Westport, CT): Pours an interesting apricot color. Very light and pretty. Some decent strawberries. Bubbles are more muted. Lovely fruits. It was an interesting comparison to the younger rose poured right after. A bit more mellow. But very enjoyable.

Blush , strawberry skins, rose nectar lifted , sleek and moreish notes of red currants , stewed aged red burg fruits and finishing with presence. Delicious and serious at the same time.

Tart red cherry and strawberry with some subtle spice, lots of acidity. Good textures throughout. Fruit is starting to dissipate, so I think it best to drink up soon. I imagine this was better 5 years ago. But perhaps it was just overshadowed by the Dom Perignon 1985 Rose in the next glass.

Amaze. Amber colored. And I haven't experienced so much concentration in a champagne before this wine - deep nutty almond flavors, buttery bread, amaretto, creamy & earthy wild mushrooms. It just coats your palate in delicious richness.

Drank for my daughter in law’s 30th bday and it was crisp, good mouse, good bubbles and quite delicious.

The best 88 Champagnes from 1988 Part 3/3 Prestige Cuvees from Magnum (L'assiette champenois): Magnum, not blind
Very vividly like freshly picked strawberries, tastes like a young wine, maybe the fruit is a touch too superficial. 95

Notes of mushrooms, toast, almonds, and burnt caramel. Gorgeous apricot/amber color.
