Not showing a lot on the nose. A bit of earth and asphalt. Really heavy on the palate. Lacked vibrancy. Overripe. Not bad but decided to save the rest for the next day. On the second day the wine was hot and had some off flavors.

Ruby red. Slight barnyard on the nose, red berries, though overwhelmed by alcohol in the end. Tasted rather sweet... cherries/strawberries. Was lighter bodied than I would have thought given the 15% alc. Nice acidity/ no tannins.

15% ABV. Popped and poured. Somewhat translucent dark garnet in the glass. Somewhat kinky nose of spice, pinon wood smoke, and a subtle animal fur nuance. Medium full bodied with somewhat reserved red berry fruit. Tasty blast from the past, not having revisited this wine since 2005. Probably time to think about drinking these up if you still have some laying down.

Poured blind, followed a 2003 Pegau. Rich and dense with a blueberry and strawberry concentrate of flavor. Fragrant and spicy, youthful and delicious. I admittedly thought pinot, given the flavors but was way off.

Opened this up as the Laker game started. Nice deep ruby color. Nose of smoke and meat. On first taste more game and blood with a dose of dark fruit. Leads way to a strong deep berry. Nice long finish. The 15% alchohol peeks through a tad bit on the finish, but not for long.

Dark red. Forward nose and palate with lots of pencil lead, plum, prune, and clove. Not really my style but this wine is fading and might be more my taste when young.

Rich and thick, big dark fruit, but also a big, meaty, earthy core that lingers into the finish. I'm familiar with Mike's zins, and this is similar style-wise, but the flavors are quite different. As usual, "shoulda bought more".

Double decanted for 40 minutes. Medium-bodied wine that is dark ruby/magenta in color. On the nose, dark berry fruits, licorice, and just a light wisp 'o VA. On the palate, black raspberries, pepper, and a touch of vanilla. Fantastic balance, structure, and acidity ending in a very long 40-second finish...very nice!

Still needing lotsof time to breath to bring out the best. After a couple of hours open the nose is still a little tight to fill out a bordeaux glass, but the flavors are singing, starting with cranberry and orange zest, into pomagranite, cherry and stones. The finish introduces some spiced cider and many other mmixed flavors.

Tons of character. Raspberry, sweet earth and a leathery, horsey edge. Got better with two hours in the decanter. I would recommend drinking over the next couple of years. An excellent value.

Holy smokes! What a delightful supprise. I expected good but not this good. This wine is really singing a song this Xmas Day 05. Opened this up to decant a while before dinner but I am here to tell you it will not make it until dinner. When I opened this bottle to decant the floral and fruit arommas overcame the smells of the roasting beefin the kitchen. Delightful fulll nose of cherries and spice and everything nice. Beautiful clear ruby red color and what a mouthfull of wine. Nicely integrated and balanced with just a touch of tannins. Fruity and spicy with good complexity and a nice long finish. This is the first bottle I opened and only wish I had more than a couple left. Bravo Mike!!!

wow, very interesting. powerhouse of a nose- dark fruit black cherry, smoke,tar- the mouth was much more of the same- one of the deepest tastes I've ever had, like espresso grounds. it was toying with me, some tastes I loved others put hair on my chest. hello deep dark stranger. this should improveby a couple points in 1-2 years.

Rhone Rangers and Lola: Blind Red 2 - Slightly translucent rim with a dark, opaque center. Slight white pepper dark fruit nose. Raspberry. Tangy red fruit and kirsch. Slightly hot? John thought this had some eucalyptus in the finish, which I often mistake for something else. Has a certain edge of austerity or firmness to it.

agree with prior note. although It took about 1 1/2 hrs after decanting for it to smooth out. will wait 9-12 months before opening another one. nice wine.

($30) PopPop Turns 85: We drank this after dinner but it really would have been better with the steaks. The nose is a bit peppery, but the overall effect is more of a spice or pinon type aroma. Full-bodied with black fruit. Has a slightly hard edge to it suggesting more time will be good. Different than most other Carlisle wines.

($30) Mo-Mourvedre at MoMo's: Blind Red 7 - Bit reluctant initially on the nose. Smells dark and big. Bark. Rich concentrated dark fruit. "Sweet and Dark" kind of sums this up. The next day the leftovers tasted more typical with red berry fruit. Probably better in a year or two.

This is just outstanding. The nose is not overly exciting, but the taste can't be beat as this wine couldn't be smoother or more velvety. A nice medley of red and black fruit, this field blend offers the full range of red cherry, cassis, black cherry, and black raspberry as it slides across your tongue. The finish is full and fat, with the darkest fruit just seeming to sit there and ask, you're asking me to leave? I know this will age, but it's not going to last in the cellar--way to delicious and fantastic QPR.
