Drank over three hours following a 2-hour decant. This is a bit ho-hum. It is definitely in the drinking window. It opens with more vibrant fruit, which fades about an hour in. There is not much density and the texture is on the lean side. It could be going through a dumb phase, but I suspect it is just not that exciting. If you have these in your cellar, you could roll the dice and be rewarded for more cellar time, but I would not recommend it. Drink up.

Best showing since my initial tasting in 2019. Continues to benefit from decanting but presently opens up nicely with an hour or two of decanting. Might not be at its peak yet.

The wine is medium garnet with pronounced aromatic intensity having notes of red cherries, rose petal, tar, and mushroom. The wine is dry and has high acidity and high tannins. It is a bit tightly-wound still but very drinkable. The alcohol level and body are medium. Flavors have medium intensity notes of red fruit and forest floor... not as bold as the nose. The finish is medium. This is a very good wine in a refined style, not a knock-your-socks-off bruiser (memo: nebbiolo is probably my favorite grape so I may be a bit of a high-side outlier).

2 hour decant/15 min glass time. Clear, deep dark red/purple. Big nose, medium body wine, resolved tannins, good balance/integration, med finish. Classic Barolo, nothing off. Mike's

Tar, roses, cherry, raspberry, leather, cedar, black pepper. Medium-plus body, acidity, & tannins. Medium-long finish. Good now, but will probably improve fo 5+ years since it was best after decanting several hours.

This has hit its stride. Nice sweet Nebbiolo fruit with a noticeable, but integrated structure, of fine, dusty tannins. It was drinkable immediately but improved with a 2 hour decant. Not particularly complex, but very fine for $35. Easily could improve for another decade...who ever comes up from their cellar and says, “Oh God, the barolo is going bad!” ??? Start enjoying if you have them. If you don’t, probably buy something better - but not too much better.

Very limited action (on the palate) and complexity over 4+ hours of decanting, tasting throughout. Either too young or unremarkable (for a Barolo) or both. Revisit in 2 years, 2021+.

Lite slightly dull red. Dull nose of alcohol, black pepper, and mild red fruits. Quintessential Barolo red fruit compote with pine needle energy. Really gripping finish with notes of diluted fresh pomegranate juice and raspberries.

Big step up in quality from the blend. Rich tannins, scary right now. Cranberry, raspberry, violets. Beautiful nose. Strong showing, but a bit of a waste to open before 2018. Great qpr.

C didn't care for this at all. Some licorice element to it that she wasn't caring for. Ok for me, a bit hot w/ alcohol I thought but some nice cherry notes before that kicked in. I don't think we'll seek out again.

12/4/2023 - Mikaelbe Does not like this wine:
Tasted after decanting (bottle stood up for a month) and following the bottle over two nights.
Found this bottle to be uninspiring, felt prematurely tired in the way a simply old wine taste. Nothing much there in the fruit department.
No hopes for my last remaining bottle but intend to keep it for a few years to see how that bottle shows.

Too dry, too light, and not much flavor for my liking. Maybe it needs more time.

At first tight. Quick sampling at opening. Tight tannin, immediate cranberry, followed by muted cherry. Giving this another 4 hours.

Way too young but I think the goods are there if you give it some years.

I think it might be better with some more age as it improved, over ay week, where i had it. But i also dont find it to be the most complex wine.

Drank it young, plenty of cherry and even unsweetened cranberry notes with brisk acidity and elegant but prolific tannins.

Expressive nose. A bit closed at first, somewhat dominated by acidity. Nebbiolo fruit underneath, needs time. May never develop.

Possibly closed down from travel through very cold temperatures? Drying tannins, very little fruit, not much complexity. Hopefully will improve.
