Bright ruby color, a hint of fading. The nose shows fragrant aromas of summer berries, herbs, flowers, pepper and minerals. This is barely medium bodied on the palate with good concentration and very good finesse. The fairly long finish features slightly rustic tannins. No hint of green here...

lacking the complexity one might expect, but gentle hints of earth, mushroom and cherries, along with a lasting finish elevates this to just under outstanding. A pleasure to drink. We will see what the second night brings.

Transparent dark red, very little fading at edge. Aromatic, pure nose of cherry, damp earth, and herbal elements. Medium to light palate with plenty of plum, cherry, herbs, and a touch of smoke. Tannins are pretty well integrated, but a bit hard, and the wine is a bit thin and acidic. However, medium length on the finish, and elegant.

Dark fruit and earthy funk dominate the nose along with distinct earth scents. There are some floral notes as well, but they seem a little synthetic. When tasted, darker spicy earth makes a nice balanced appearance with deep dark fruit lurking benieth. There is a slight green note towards the beginning of the finish, but overall the wine is well integrated and enjoyable.

Cote des Nuits Tour (Red Slate Wine Co., Portland, OR): Earth driven nose and palate with hints of tobacco, clay, sour cherries and delicate red berries. Cleanest finish, most balanced with low strength acid and light but present tannins. This wine is not my style at all but I found it very enjoyable.
