{Bought on release; forgotten; 1st of 6, PopNPour} Short note - like Bob H I forgot I had this wine. Opened it thinking it would be past prime but Golly it was good! Let the bottle warm up (initially too cold at refrigerator temp) and it held up at room temperature until finished 8 hours later. Remarkably good and great QPR. No hint of being mature and it held up incredibly well. Wow.

Moving boxes around in the cellar, and I unearthed this wine and a 2015. I don't usually hang on to my Boulay Rose' this long, although I will age rose' from Pibarnon.
At any rate, this is light-colored - I just drank the 2018 vintage of this wine in the last week or so, and that wine was noticeably darker in color.
This is past peak, but still pleasant, if somewhat "sedate". Citrus notes and acidity, but the fruit has receded into the background. IMO, if you still have this in the cellar, time to start thinking about drinking up.

At fours years past vintage, this wine has really come around. Very enjoyable and, as the British say, moreish. Bouquet of red berries and flower petals. Pleasing and mouthfilling with a long harmonious finish. When this was young, I found this rather unyielding but now it is rounder, fuller, and very satisfying.

Light peach-colored in the glass; nose is nothing to get overly excited about.
Crisp & dry on the palate - on release, this wine was fairly taut, but at this point it has started to unwind a bit. Refreshing, with good acidity. I had it tonight with an Asian stir fry and was surprised at how well this paired.
I know there is always this debate about whether one should age rose'. I've had this wine multiple times since release, and it is drinking very well tonight - maybe not quite as linear/bright anymore, but seemingly more complete & satisfying at this point.

Dry nose of salt marsh and strawberries. Delicious sweet acid-laced core of fruit on the palate with a bracing tannic lift at the back, long finish. A lovely fall rose. 50 + 16 + 16 + 8.

This is a very unusual rose in that, for now, it takes just shy of two hours to unwind and show its stuff. When I first opened it, it seemed dilute and lacking a center. That really surprised me both because of my respect for this winemaker and the high scores this got from critics. Only now is it beginning to show its stuff – complex nose with earthy, beefy notes, mouthfilling with very long, pleasing finish. Who ever heard of a rose that took two hours to open up?

We didn't like this wine. It had a strong sour flavor that strengthened after an initially more positive impression. We had a couple glasses and dumped the rest. I'm hoping it was just a bad bottle.

Pale salmon. Light dusty aroma of strawberry and rose. Crisp fruit on the palate with nice weight at the center balanced by a delicate acid frame, medium finish. 50 + 15 + 16 + 7.

Similar in color to the '14 Pibarnon; nose on opening is somewhat reticent, with a rose nuance in the background.
Comes across as dilute on the mid-palate, although despite that "hole" in the wine, decent persistence on the finish. A complicating note of bitterness/acerbity on the finish as well.
At first glance here today, I have a preference for the Pibarnon.
Bob H's note on this a couple days ago prompted me to open this, my last bottle. Enjoyed outside on the deck in mid-December. Crazy warm weather for this time of year. I enjoyed the wine. Tart, crisp, and dry. I need to reload on this and Montenidoli's rose of Canaiuolo.

Taking advantage of the unseasonally warm weather here today to grill up some fish.
Salmon pink in the glass; a nice "citric" minerality on the nose.
Crisp, dry and bracing on the palate, with decent persistence on the finish. Along with the Rose from Pibarnon, Boulay is one of my annual purchases, and the wine always delivers.

The best of the Roses this year. I have yet to open Tempier and Pibaron, but I hope to get to them before winter. Crisp and tart and refreshing. More citrus than raspberry. Alcohol is listed at 12.5%. I like it.

We've gone through a few bottles of this this Summer; very light salmon colored in the glass, and nice minerality (for lack of a better descriptive) on the palate. Also a nice citric note as well.
Tart fruit and fairly dry on the palate - very nice. This is about as good as rose' gets for me (although I haven't picked up my 2014 Pibarnon yet, so I should really do these side-by-side one day soon to see which one I prefer).
Lovely glass to accompany a roasted summer squash and peach salad with olives and feta cheese, and then perfectly grilled swordfish, asparagus and fingerling potatoes. Pale orange / salmon color. Strawberry and melon with a high level of acidity to make it a strong food accompaniment.

Pale pale salmon color. Aromas of strawberry, grapefruit and minerals. Strongly chalky finish with great acidity. A delicate and distinctive rose with nice presence on the palate.

Even lighter salmon-toned than the 2012 Pibarnon; nice nose, almost like springtime flowers after a rain, and closing with a citric note.
Nice, but comes across as slightly dilute on the palate. I think I have a preference on opening for the 2012 Pibarnon, but this wine is less "severe" and still quite refreshing on the palate. Also should be a good match for the grilled fish.

Pretty good but not as interesting as the Montenidoli Canaiuolo we've been enjoying this summer. This shows more pale red fruits, light melon and less dried herbs and saline. Light, tart and refreshing though and still in the upper echelon of roses to my tastes.

Super lean and chalky, 'nothing in excess' as Tanzer remarked of the 2010...the aromatics bring to mind Cab Franc at times; there's an alluring cinnamon component on the finish. My first Boulay rose and hopefully not my last.

Pale salmon color; hints of blood orange on the slightly reticent nose of this popped & poured wine.
"Cool" and crisp on the palate. My first look at the current vintage, and while this is always a mandatory case purchase for me in the Spring, the wine comes across as slightly dilute with this first glass. I'm planning on pairing this up with some grilled arctic char in about an hour or so, so we'll see if it opens up with food.

Much better than the bottle we opened a year ago. Enjoyable rose although a touch sour. Still prefer the Pibarnon.
