Opened for 3 hours. Coming back to my 2nd and last bottle after 3 years. Nose: Plum, violets, pepper, cassis, cinnamon and a bit of beef blood. On the palate: Plum, dark chocolate, cassis, pepper, beef blood and violets. This is a nice wine.

Still showing plenty of dark blueberry compote fruit. Soft tannins and a supple texture. Unlikely to improve but should hold steady for a while. Drink up.

Thanksgiving wine. Decanted for an hour. Scarlet color. Dark fruit on the nose. Palate was fruit forward with hints of berries and orange. Velvet smooth tannins. Moderate finish. Truly great with the turkey!

Opened for 3 hours. Color is very dark ruby red with a hint of orange on the rim. The nose: Pepper, cassis , a little dark chocolate and some violets. On the palate: Plum, cassis , chocolate and caramel and pepper. Just a hint of alcohol heat on the back end. Good mouthfeel. My first bottle of this. It’s a good wine. More old world than new world.

Deep crimson with haze. Aromatic with allspice, blackcurrant and oak. Dry, full bodied with crisp acidity. Medium tannins with fair balance. Flavors of blackcherry, nectarine and beets. Long, displeasing finish. Still solid.

Think I like this style of Syrah. Most syrahs I've had are very extracted or if aged, well balanced. this one was somewhere in a mid ground, not too extracted yet nuanced. Kept getting better in the glass, mostly the fruit intensified. Seems ready now but may age perhaps 5 years more.

Nice fruit that one expects from a DuMol wine, but it felt kind of chunky and unintegrated in the mouth. It is otherwise very clean and pure. By chunky I mean it could seem thin one moment and very concentrated the next.

Lavender, olives and dark fruit on the nose. Blackberries, blueberries and all spice on the palate with nice integration of tannins. Fairly straight-forward but not over-extracted. Really enjoyable and a good QPR, especially in this vintage.

Great syrah flavors - dark fruit, blueberry. Tannins are well integrated. Opened up after 90 min nicely and was just as good the next day. Drink now with at least an hour decant or hold for another few years.

Deep ruby in color. On the nose, aromas of blackberries, sandalwood, boysenberry, toast. On the palate this is a full bodied wine with moderate acidity and tannin (somewhat still young), with fruits- blackberry, blueberry, mulberry, some spice, and midpalate some raisin. Finish is medium plus. A very good wine, drinking well now but could also cellar another 5 or so yrs.

Dark ruby/purple color throughout. Lots of rich blueberry, raspberry fruit on the nose along with some earthiness. The wine is mouthcoating, full bodied with delicious but slightly tart fruit, some oak and good acidity. Drinking nicely now.

BlackBerry. Almost blackberry jam or pie. A touch of pepper. Mild acidity and very fine grainy tannin. So easy to drink. Doesn’t need anything but people to drink it with.

"...Purple color. Nose of cedar, blackberry, anise and with hints of carnation and sweet pencil lead. Taste is more fruity with blackberry and strawberry being most prominent. Also with notes of blueberry, cola and licorice. Medium acidity and tannins lead to a sweet tart finish. A little crushed black pepper lingers."

Decanted for 30 minutes before serving. In the glass, dark, opaque purplish-red. On the nose, plums, currants, and a touch of smoke. On the palate, smooth texture, berries, pepper, and moderate levels of tannins on the finish. Not the most complex syrah, but nicely balanced.

I know DuMol is primarily known for their Pinot but my favorite from this producer is their Syrah -- always has a nice hint of vanilla and rich, succulent depth. The 2013 didn't brings as much depth and sweetness as 2012 and earlier vintages. Will try another bottle soon ....

Reaching for a '12, mistakenly opened '13... but pleasantly surprised with the aromas and tastes from such a young wine; we finished the bottle over two days - very pleased. It can be served now; however, I'll sit on my '13's for another couple of years; I'm very confident it will be well worth the wait.
