Always a pleasure to return to Sizeranne, so youthful, but already so enjoyable with profound aroma intensity, freshness and lively structure. Made from single varietal of Syrah, aged for 18 months, 85% oak barrels, 15% concrete, 13.5% abv. Medium+ ruby colour. Intense perfumed aroma of cherries, smoky meat, char, violets, black pepper, earth, hint potpourri. Medium+ body, tight and bright structure, fresh fruitiness, some cherry pits, smoke, high finely grained tannins, long & fresh finish.

Emirates lounge. Typical Northern Rhone with notes of pepper and grilled meat. Light to medium body with good freshness. Oak well integrated already. Good length. Lovely.

Decanted 1hr and drank over next 2-3hrs. The meaty nose declined over the time so would suggest decanting and drinking immediately over the same period. White pepper present and a somewhat muscular wine without the wow factor. Disappointed given the price point.

Peppery, earthiness well rounded with cherries. Ready at peak to drink. Decanted for 90 minutes and thoroughly enjoyed with steak au poivre.

Nose on chinese ink, pepper and blackberries. Tannins still not resolved, needs another few more years. A little shy at the moment, good concentration

A week in the Northern Rhone; 12/7/2018-12/15/2018 (Lyon, Vienne, Ampuis, Chavanay, Hermitage, Cornas, St. Joseph, Condrieu & Paris): At the Chapoutier tasting room. 85% in barrel (5-10% new) and 15% in concrete. This is a blend of many different plots in Hermitage. This has a very fragrant nose of fruit and florals. On the palate still quite grippy tannins and blackberry and black currants with cracked black pepper and some fennel or black licorice on the finish. Interesting to try this one.
