Tasted after 2000. Good nose, but less layered and nuanced compared to the 2000. On the palate a little tired, not much fruit, acidity sticking out. Medium length. The group’s favourite, with the 2006 my least favourite. Drink up. 87-89

Wow! Dynamite violet-red on the eye. Aromas of dark red fruits with a bit of spice and pepper. Fantabulous balance with subtle tannins and a long, elegant finish. Think Nicole Kidman dressed for the Oscars...stunning elegance and stature Still has a few good years in her ;-)

This is the last bottle from a set of six purchased on the Island Princess during a Panama Canal cruise. We decanted for 4 hours. It was still rich, spicy, with a hint of berry. Glad we drank now, isn't as good as it was last year.

donker rood, rijpe neus, wat cederhout, kersenfruit, licht wat boers, smaak is vol en rond, mooie rijpe tannines, wijn is nog prima in orde, soepel glas met wat warmte.

Bought on a Princess Cruise in Alaska in 2004 as part of their "gourmet" wine package. Decanted 2-1/2 hours. Spice, acid, coffee but not a lot of fruit. OK to drink with a nice roast beef, but not a lot of complexity. At 4-1/2 hours after decanting, it's evolving more and more. Some blue fruit is coming out along with just a tad of chocolate. The back label says that this is a blend of old vine cabernet and old vine merlot. Not a great wine, but a good to very good one. According to the web site, the new Founder's Reserve is mostly cabernet, with some syrah and petit verdot, so the new stuff is a different wine.

Opaque ruby core with a medium ruby rim showing some garnet. Thick tears.
Intense and developed nose with lots of cedar, then blackcurrant
The palate was dry, full bodied with medium+ acidity and a high level of very soft tannins and high alcohol. Intensive flavor of black currant, cedar and boysenberry. Long and complex.
This wine lands somewhere between very good to excellent quality; it is elegant, fairly intensive, long and structured and fairly complex. It is, however, declining. Somehow like a warm climate Bordeaux but lacking the longevity. But then, it is a Bordeaux blend.
Drink now.

Deep ruby colour, medium at the rim. Fruity and vanilla aromas. Blackcurrant, plum and vanilla on the palate. Prominent tannins. Prolonged length. Youthful. No sediment. Good.

Drink them now if you still have some. Drank with the 97 and I actually believe the 97 held up better but both are past their prime.

87...kind of like a junior Bordeaux. I agree it is likely past its peak.
