At home with andouille sausage and shrimp...an unlikely pairing but was in the mood for some new world Pinots...Drank this before/after a 2010 Castalia Rochioli and a14 Big Table Farm. Last bottle from this purchase, looking forward to a visit at the winery. This one had an interesting night...
Decanted for about 30 minutes, when we started in with this (post Castalia), one of my guests confessed she didnt like it (hair spray toilet water...need not elaborate). I suggested we let it sit, she wasn't on the hook to drink it, and went to the Big Table Farm (huge hit...). Coming back to this wine later, the group went to it tentatively but found...not surprisingly...a completely different wine once it was open.
Dark ruby color. Nose after about an hour open went from less flattering descriptors to dark cherries, strawberries, earth and baking spice. Palate was equally complex, repeating the nose with cherries, mushrooms, earth, black tea and smoke. Finish was earthy, 20-30 seconds.
The moral of the story on this was the decant and air time made all the difference, this crew would have dumped the wine if I let them...candidate for WOTN by the end of the evening...they were all sad this was my last bottle. Great stuff, really unique new world profile - not Oregon, not California, not NZ, it has its own signature and sense of place...

Aerate to decanter, color dark dirty ruby with no sign of bricking, full body. Big, complex pinot bouquet of red and dark cherries, ripe strawberries, dried Autumn leaves, sassafras, cinnamon and a little funky clay. Similar to other recent notes on this wine, this unfortunately was lacking the distinctive aromas of campfire smoke I noted three years ago. Big evolved flavors of cherries, raspberries, sassafras, mushroom and spices with some in-the-mouth flowery perfume. Long finish of cherries and spices accompanied by black tea flavors. Medium-plus acid and tannins are a little softer and more open-knit than previous. Overall outstanding on its own and a great pairing with Tday turkey and full array of sides. This might go another ten years. At $42 this still ranks well in the mid-level PN offerings. Sadly, this was my last bottle.

Beautiful nose of rose petal and camphor. On the palate, strawberry, cherry, a bit of some darker fruit (plum?), and some sweet earthiness. The smoky note (creosote?) that made previous bottles of this stand out has almost entirely disappeared, but this is still a very good wine. An excellent New World-style Pinot Noir. I think I preferred it younger, but it obviously has room to age for several more years. If I can find more recent vintages of this under $40 I will rebuy.

New world style Pinot, had some real wow factors with my guests. Drank next to a 2006 St. Innocent Pinot Shea Vineyards - both were terrific wines. Decanted for about 1.5 hours.
Cherry, red fruit and earthy flavors. 20-30 second finish. More fruit forward than the Oregon, somewhere between an Oregon and Cal. Pinot. Drinking very well now but seems like it has some years ahead of it

I am not going to rate this bottle. On pop and pour, it had a funk which I didn't like at all. Very little fruit. Pouring through the Vinturi brought out some fruit but I am still not sure what I think of this. I would give this some time and/or decant.

On the nose, red fruit, some dirt and minerality, and maybe a little heat. In the mouth, lots of fruit. Much more fruit forward than I would have expected. Decent acid to balance the fruit -- some earth and minerals in the mouth. Interested to see where this goes.

Decanted for 1,5 hour. It is really nice on the nose with pronounced smoky meat, herbs, mushrooms, truffles and earthy components....very complex on the nose indeed. It however underperfoms on the palate where it is rather one dimensional without all nuances it shows on the nose. It's elegant and balanced with the right amount of fruit extraction. Its tannic structure makes it very versatile to pair either with fish or meat (in my case, it was lamb). This is really good bottle of wine. Recommended!

Smokehouse on the nose! I think I maybe hyped this up a bit though. Wish I decanted but pulled right from the 56 degree cellar. Tight but opened up significantly over the night. Enjoyed with spaghetti and meatballs. I think a 90-91 score is about right.

Like other comments here, the friends who drank this with us noted this is uncharacteristically big and closer to full bodied for a pinot, but nevertheless they loved it and were stunned by the complexity of the nose and palate - the same way I was when I first tried it. Decanted for about 3 hours, we paired this with some same-day caught fresh scallops and shrimp marinated in EVO, garlic, fresh lemon and oregano grilled over charcoal. The delicate smokiness of the shellfish was perfectly matched with the earth and smoke characteristics of the wine. Very long, lingering finish. Really outstanding.

Two hour decant. Color showing some brownish bricking around the edges. Very complex nose of black cherry, fresh dirt, wood smoke, balsamic vinegar, and herbs. Med-full bodied wine with great balance and complexity on the palate. Interesting smoky fruit flavors enhanced by Burgundian-like earthy notes. A perfect mix of fruit and terrior. Tannins bold at first but eased up as the night went on and made it a pefect match for cedar plannk salmon.

Interesting for a pinot - smoky flavors are quite pronounced. Tasted side by side with an Anderson valley pinot blind and you could immediately tell which was from California and which was from Chile. It was tasty though, but I wouldn't necessarily peg it as a pinot.

I might be a little high with my rating, but I loved this bottle of wine. A lot of the pinot's I've had recently don't have any of the backbone and character of the Casa Marin, and the burgundian profile really won me over. Another great experience with this wine. Surprisingly opaque and dark red in the glass for a pinot. Very perfumed nose of plummy red fruit and cassis. Medium to full-bodied on the palate (especially for pinot), smokey mix of red and dark fruit once again with good tannins and solid acidity to balance. I really like this little number, and at under 30 bucks a bottle it's a great buy. Solid buy at 40.

Respi-aerate to decanter. Initial air time was longer than planned (2.5hr), but no matter. Color dark dirty ruby, full body. Complex nose comes through with wide-open throttle and great depth of black cherry, cinnamon and other spices, sassafras, raspberry notes uplifting from underneath, hints of meat, smoke (smoked meat?), and fresh earth. The kind of bouquet that promises something special and keeps you smelling all night long. Big and layered on the palate, aiming for the fence with a mixture of black cherries, raspberries and earth, supported by a healthy dose of spices and truffle. Spouse said she detected a touch of lavender in the mid. Long diminuendo finish (30+sec) that starts with an interesting gamey note, along with raspberries, currants and a huge amount of campfire smoke leading into earth and minerals. After the finish is done I'm still tasting some minerals a minute later. At five hours this is still going strong and the tightness on the back end has relaxed very nicely. This was served with duck breast accompanied by Brut Rose sparkling wine/dried cherries/shallot/thyme/lavender reduction, and the pairing was mind boggling - like the two were made only for each other. Overall one of the best PN's we've had in years, attributable to a marvelous blending of terroir and fruit showing classic varietal characteristics. Although spendy at $42, this over-delivers when considering its complexity.

A fabulous Pinot-probably the best non-Burg I've have in a year. Plenty of beautiful fruit, but the murky, wet forest floor, mushroom, and sassafras notes supported by that classic Chilean creosote foundation really did it for me. Plenty of years left in this bottle for even more complexity to emerge.

JC, Blake and I Drink Wine (my apartment): Very seductive nose full of sour cherries, and an attractive meatiness. Ruby, garnet right to rim. Characteristic PN scents jumping from glass, strawberry, little orange zest, cinammon, little meaty and match book scents. Red fruit on palate, strange medicinal nuances, little wierd, strawberry jam, meaty, cinammon, band aids, smoke on finish. I really wanted to like this wine, but I can't see buying more for $50.

There is definite smoke on the finish. Makes me think that it would pair very well with smoked pork. A very unique pinot. However, one bottle was enough for me.
