Bon.

From the cool, remote, "extreme" (as identified by the producers) region of Alto Cachapoal, this pure Cab begins so well, with sexy, luscious, Bordeaux-like aromas of blackcurrant and plum, followed by herbs and black pepper. And it's appealing on the palate, too, with replays of the dark fruit and herbs along with tart cherry, even if the flavours thin out quickly, in stark contrast to those early aromatics, leading through soft tannins to a decent, and prolonged, finish. But then things really take a turn for the worse, and instead of left-bank Bordeaux this comes to resemble a weird, funky, earthy-meaty Syrah-Mourvedre blend from the Midi. And there it remains, simple and, given what had been there early on, disappointing. The parts are here, the noticeable lack of oak influence is appreciated (just some mild wood taste), and more time in the open brings out nervy minerality and a temporary return to Bordeaux, but the whole is disjointed and inconsistent.

PnVnD 1/3 of the bottle let air for 1hr. Classic claret colour with rosy to clear rim. Cigar box cassis and green peppercorns on the nose smoky note from the oak blows off over time. Medium(-) with supple slightly grippy tannins. Very sleek with nicely ripe red and black currant flavours with a touch of cedar a pleasant bit of green pepper. Elegant cigar box and cassis finish. Elegant balanced not overly extracted classy cab.

Flat with a metallic finish. Not my favorite.

Not complex but very tasty. Excellent everyday drinker. Good Cab Sauv profile, , slightly more modern fruit concentration.
