This is in a great place. Cherries and dark berries are there for the tasting. Nice weight, lots of acid, with a complex, peppery finish. Your patience is ready to be rewarded. Go for it!

a very simple, almost dainty cab. No tannic monster or fruit bomb here. Just light red fruit and cherry on the nose and palate. Light finish. I cannot see how this one would last to 2020. Drink ASAP

First impression was of balance. Not overly tannic or fruity or jammy, just the right amount of everything - (a harmony of rounds and angles as Fred explained to us during one of our visits). This cab was perfect with our grilled sirloin/mashed taters.

This was a Cab week, with '07 Educated Guess followed by the base '07 Audelssa Cab (Sonoma Valley) and a '99 Beringer Knights Valley. The Scherrer was the only 375 ml, accompanying a Pierre Franey-based brown sauce in this case (suateed shallots, red wine, brown gravy from a jar, shallots, butter). Most balanced of the group. Classic CA Cab nose, not too pencil-leadish, spicy enough, sweetness showing through at the end. All had long finishes, but the Scherrer was the most balanced, reflecting its 7 years (vs 10 for the Beringer and 4 for the Ed Guess and Audelssa). NOTE: These notes are written with an eye toward Wineberserkers, which is why they are so long (!).
BTW: best of class? Audellsa...but Npot Fair!!! It was on sale at $20 vs MSRP of $40 and $35 here in LA at an aggressive retailer. The Ed Guess was $15 at tthe same place and more of what I would expect for that price point. The Scherrer was...given its age and small bottle format, the class act.

Slightly corked, but I soldiered on (!) while the boss stayed with her '97 Thunder Mtn.

Merryvale Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Vertical Blind Tasting (5th Street Dinner Club): Very sweet and simple with no structure to speak of. Not good at all and stuck out like a sore thumb amongst all of the other Cabs that were being tasted.
