Intense aromatics and densely, layered flavors of black cherry, boysenberry, blackberry, cassis, caramel, earth, cedar, and leather. Picks up a whiff of Band-Aid in the decanter. Displays a full body, bright acidity, a beautiful texture and granitic minerality throughout. A mid-palate of wet rocks is followed by a graphite backnote that lingers on the black cherry, mocha, and coffee finish. The flavors continue to coat the inside of your mouth long after the last sip, giving the residual effect of having eaten a bowl of black cherries. This is exuberantly good. Lost most of its fruit the second night.

Roda I full vertical (1992-2006), Oenocosmos Wine Fair, Athens, Greece. Dark garnet. Coffee, smoke, ripe blackberries, oak, coconut and sultanas on the nose. Medium-bodied, balanced with good fruit, soft tanins and adequate acidity. Long, peppery finish. Very impressive given the vintage.

Dark garnet to purple color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of leather, florals, white pepper, black berries and black cherries. Flavors of black berries, black cherries, black raspberries and dark plums. Medium to bright acidity, medium to firm tannins, full bodied. Drink now with some air or continue to hold.

A difficult year, and it shows on the wine. This wine is completely muted, the aromas are quite attached to the liquid and don’t show any exuberant fruit as the others before. If you get close enough you get some dark fruit, dark earth, and a slight boiled vegetable stock at the end. The color is dark, hinting toward purple but you can see it’s not as thick as the great 2001. The flavors save this wine from total failure; the Roda identity shines through and saves the day. The wine has some delicious dark fruits, but its missing secondary nuances, and tannins are very weak. The finish is very short, but still very drinkable.

Very dark garnet. Coffee, smoke, ripe blackberries, oak, coconut and sultanas on the nose. Full-bodied, very dense, yet balanced with big fruit, soft tanins and adequate acidity. Long, peppery finish. Very impressive given the vintage. Almost every time this wine is tasted, a discussion on typicity starts...

When it was younger I loved. At this point, I understand last opinions cause this bottle had non sense, every element is not well-integrated, they run by their own. A complete disaster! To my opinon, over the hill but in any case is, will be, a classic. Chesse course was superior indeed. Bad vintages, drink them quickly.

What a disaster! Stewed raisins, port, milk chocolate and alcohol. This was completely flat, utterly one dimensional and severely disjointed. Not my style.

Big Red! (Sportsman's): Garnet color. Plumb and prune nose. Mature black fruit. Weak finish. This should have been sold and consumed years ago. Over the hill. Unrated.

Drank this for my 41 Bday. Nice Bottle Decanted about an hour and sipped while preparing dinner. Really great with a chared filet and and crab cakes. Got better as it opened up.

This was better than I though it was going to be....given the 2002 vintage was not the best for Rioja. This wine is stunning and elegant. Popped and poured. The nose is very expressive and inviting. This wine is in perfect balance. Lovely fruit forward with flavors of blackberry, cherry, and undertones of vanilla and subtle oak. The wine is medium to fuller bodied and has slight to moderate tannins making for a rather short, but lush and enjoyable finish. I could drink this all day.

Youthfully deep color. Oh lord, the wood just roars out of the glass. Very sweet, caramel, candied impression atop an amazingly oaky base. Syrupy and devoid of acidity. I hate this style of wine.

Not real familiar with this grape, the Tempranillo. Still drinking the bottle, but what a nose! Nice Bordeaux-like nose gives way to a really silky, elegant wine. I don't like fruit forward wines but this has great fruit without being overpowering or sweet. I'd wait another year or two or three for the next, but drinking well now. Paid $35 for it today...good wine but certainly not rushing back to the store at that price- but at $25 I'd buy a case. Great gift wine...I'd be shocked to hear that someone doesn't like this right now.

nose: big black nose with smoke, oak tones, black cherries, blackberry, and earth tones with bits of red currants. Very aromatic nose that is very strong and deep
taste: bold flavors of black cherry, smoke, cassis, and earth tones
overall: a very sumptuous wine. Beautiful bold and black flavors that give off a very pungent and aromatic nose and a bold black cherry attack and smokey finish

Absolutely marvelous. Decanted for half an hour before drinking with roast rack of lamb. Deep crimson in colour. Nose of black cherries and red currants with some oak, vanilla and leather. Medium bodied with the cherries and red currants playing the starring role in a wonderfully complex flavour sensation. Amazing mouthfeel that seemed to massage my tongue and cheeks. The finish just semeed to go on and on and on... Without a doubt this is the bottle I have most enjoyed to date. According to Parker '02 was an off-year for Rioja, if so I can only imagine how amazing the '03 will be!

Excepcional.

Two bottles with Britt at cabo Roche (Seville) Great colour!! Red fruits on nose and mouth. Black chocolate spiced with a light flavor smoked (wood). Very silky and fond of sweets. Flavor by repeating again and again.
