Part 2 Produttori del Barbaresco 2009 horizontal. Tasted blind. Drank in Conterno Sensory. Tasty but more evolved than expected. Might be bottle condition. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby-garnet colour. Legs. Nose medium+ intensity, with aromas of cheesy earth, red pomegranate. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of savoury cheesy earth, red pomegranate, red plums, meatiness. Long savoury finish.

A bit austere initially. Needs about 2 hours to open up at this point. From 2 hours+ we got wonderful floral perfume on the nose. The fruit was bright and balanced. Really lovely, but even better in a few years

It's probably obvious but... it's a baby. Still, after a lot of air, this starts to show its true color. The nose is still slightly muted but aromas of licorice, black fruit, smoke make their way out. On the palate, tannins are present but they start to soften and the mouthfeel is firm and dry. This is already gorgeous and probably needs another 10 years.

Fantastic complex floral tones with red fruits. Very. Elegant!! The taste is now perfectly balanced between the Nebbiolo main tastes. A lovely wine. Love it!

Produttori Asili 2013 Day 3. On the nose, the licorice is very present with anise and sweet clove notes, giving way to wild flowers, violets and alluring scents, with hints of dusty notes. Very nice. On the palate - sour red cherries, licorice, hints of sweet clove and cola, great elegance and balance and great texture; some chalky tannins and herbs. Elegant but still powerful. With more air some umami / blue cheese notes appear. 95/100

Produttori Del Barbaresco Asili Reserva 2013 Man this really required lots of air to get going: I opened it 3 hours before but it really should have been decanted for 5. On the nose, intense sweet roses is most obvious but there are also clove, sweet herbal notes and hints of mint. Lots of energy on the nose. On the palate, with enough air, the sweet clove, licorice, red cherries, hints of mint and spice. Full of energy, juicy with great acidity but yet elegance with great balance and a lovely mid palate. It’s about a 92-93 for now but has the potential to be a 95-96 once it’s well developed. I shall taste it in the next few days to see if there’s any development.
First bottle of a case, and it is indeed great. Decanted and followed over 5 hours. Really tannic, for sure, but there’s already so much polish and finesse to the mouthfeel. Nose of teakwood, violet, rawhide, wild mint, plum skin, anise; more on the elegant side of Barbaresco but still tons of power and concentration. I’m curious how this will drink in 3-4 years. 2026-2040

Excellent balance of berries and florals on the nose. still young and vibrant with marked acidity and tannins but the the edge has been cut of a bit making the first elegant aging tones present. I love it and it will age well many more years

Vinetasters: 2013 Produttori horizontal et al. (Skokie, IL): Served double blind. This one was really hard for me to pin down. It was varyingly red- and black-fruited, but also a little woodsy and aldehydic. Good acidity, but too much structure without enough flesh on the bones right now. My 6th, group's 3rd.

Quite open and complex on the nose already with all the textbook Nebbiolo-aromatics one could wish for. On the palate it is packed with a dark toned cherry fruit, balsamic spice, tar and dried flowers. The structure is still tough as nails but there is nothing harsh or rustic about it. It's for sure enjoyable today and even more so with food but this has so much potential waiting to released. Would love to revisit this wine in 10, 15 or 20 years.

Stunning wine. Dark, highly aromatic nose that leaps almost out of the bottle. Could have smelled this all night. Violet, liquorice, and beautiful red fruit. Very special. Outstanding borderline exceptional. Iron like tannins take this medium bodied wine very long. Thank you for sharing Duck. A real treat.
Annual Pilgrimage to Piedmont - 2020 Edition; 10/9/2020-10/11/2020 (Piemonte, Italy): The 2013 vintage really comes out well here especially from a vineyard like Asili. Round and for sure very drinkable now, lush fruit, dark fruits soft tar and very much the rounder of the Asilis we have ever tried. Good now and a solid 92 but with lots of life ahead to evolve and improve . Very good

Almost too young to rate. Tannic and acidic with just incredible structure. Took well over an hour to coax any fruit out. Hold at least 5 years. Upside potential of a few points.

I suspected this, but didn't check my 2018 CT note before opening an orphan bottle I had in my wine fridge. The 2013 Asili is very primary, structured and tightly shut down. It was pretty much unapproachable on the first evening but better on each of the next two following evenings, opening up a bit. Deep dark red. Initially on bouquet lifted rose and violet aromatics, tar, wet river gravel, black tea, black cherries and other dark fruit. With time, a little earth, more tar and some new leather saddle emerged. On palate, very young, unresolved and dense. But it is almost drinkable now because it is so fine and well balanced. Ultra fine grained tannins and silky texture. Bright, persistent acidity. Serious fruit weight, power and volume. Quite dry with granite austerity at its core. Black tea, minerals, dark soil, tar and a real dark fruit character. Really not yet ready for opening. It needs an absolute minimum of 5-8+ more years in the cellar, but ideally 10-20 years to come into its peak drinking window. Excellent (94-95) potential.
I may need to edit and add additional notes for day 2
Popped and poured and drinking from unfortunately very poor Hotel glassware in Annecy.
Day 1: Initially a little muted but opening up. A darker more masculine Produttori, yet to gain the silky drink ability of the Del Barbaresco. Very tannic, dry, pot pourri, aniseed, cranberry juice. Need to edit on day 2 as it's enjoyable but also quite tough going right now. 91 +++
Day 2: After a tough day falling off my bike this is going down a treat. Much more open, deeper, round and more plush, tannins subdued and enveloped within the fruit. Perhaps some dark Rhubarb and less Cranberry and surprisingly creamy and glossy. Depth and complexity today and my fears were not justified, this is truly fantastic. Tannins so fine and lingering, just perfect. Could be 97 points in 5-10 years 95-96

(at Maialino - NYC) Just great wine. A baby of course, but a beautiful one. Strawberry and rose tea notes on the already captivating nose. The palate shows so much promise. Incredible depth. Layers and layers of flavor that are tightly coiled. Should be pure magic in 15 years. About as good a value as one will ever encounter. (97++)
Infanticide check-in. Pop n' pour. Everything you'd want and expect is at play here. Lots of red berries, new leather and licorice. Concentrated red fruit that is just drinkable despite the firm structure below. This will most certainly shut down soon. Next bottle in 15-20 years.

Wow what a wine. The tannins are so refined in such a young nebbiolo. Dark cherry, earth -needs some time (10 years at least) but a superb wine in the making.

Too early to give a number but this is very serious wine. Tight upon opening but began to give up rose pedals and candied orange peel after an hour. About another hour it turned around and shut down. Don't think twice about buying this wine, but expect to stick it in the back of the cellar for a good bit.

Here I found a layered, dark and mineral-laden bouquet with black and red fruit, mint, dried roses, earth and hints of black tea. On the palate I found velvety textures with cool-toned dark red fruit, inner floral tones and spice yet youthfully compressed and structured It finished long, structure and spicy as the fruit leaned toward tart raspberry with a coating of fine tannin.

2016 Tasting at Produttori del Barbaresco with Aldo Vacca: Harder to get an idea from a brief taste here. More subdued aromatics. On palate too, seeming a more subtle wine. Elegant and refined. Very closed and tight. Seemingly well balanced and proportioned, in terms of tannins and acids. The impression of plenty of power held in reserve.
