Darker gold amber; nose shows lots of honeyed aged complexity, lots of dried golden fruit, wilted floral and waxy notes, sweetness in check and quite savory at this point; bottle was seeping and I don’t feel it was as fresh as it could have been, seemed a little advanced even for being 27 years old.

Tooch Going Away Dinner (TDS): My favorite of the three Rieslings. Big full intense nose has an almost caramel edge to the rich, mature, smoky white fruit. Round and intense, with great concentration. Dry richness in the long and strong finish.

A farewell to Tooch (Chicago, IL): #09-96. Absolutely brilliant nose with a broadness here that is a little unexpected. Faint aromas of petrol, as well as a slightly funky cheese note behind the drying fruit. The sweetness on the palate comes through pretty much immediately, but then is washed away by the acids. Nothing is loud or out of balance here; this is a nicely restrained bottle. Probably still has plenty of life, but to me definitely ready to drink.

Willi Schaefer at his best. A panoply of flavors. Long, dry finish.
