I looked at it and it looked at me. I stared hard at it and it started to mock me with its silence and so I did what any red blooded Lynehamsas man would do - crank up the Black Oak Arkansas and rip the cap off this wine and drink it to death.
From a warm vintage, yet a good one and from the sea breeze kissed McLaren Vale, where it might be 40 degrees Celsius at 2pm but it will be a balmy 28 degrees around 5pm as the sea breeze rolls in. You tend to get the option of making reds that are rubicund and curvaceous, but with a little more life than those baked sons of the Barossa.
This wine weighs in at 14.5% ABV but it holds it well and whilst I would expect a lot of blackberry at this level of ripeness, it is there but dark plum is more dominant. It is also starting to show some nice age related characters - earth, leather, a touch of cola and coffee. Tannins there be but they are open weave and very easy to my taste.
For a commercial style you get a lot of bang for your buck and there is more intensity and length than is usual at this price range. I am thinking the borderline anarchy and rough edges of 'I Could Love You' from BOA's first album. Maybe this wine also harks back to 'When Electricity Came to Arkansas'. Yee-ha!

Dense black with a dark crimson hue. Aroma of straw, pepper, turmeric, dried herbs, old oak, smoked meats. Very smooth, milky chocolate, full body, balanced Acidity. Tannin is very fine And abundant. Fruit is subdued, relying more on the milky tannin and smooth body then fruit flavours. Large amount of sediment, sure I lost half a glass. Good quality wine but I do feel I may have left It too long, maybe a year or two earlier would have had more fruit.

2013 Yangarra Estate Shiraz McLaren Vale was robust and evolving. The Australian Shiraz was opaque deep purple in colour with lots of sediments, showing aromas of blackcurrant, blackberries, violets and black pepper, followed by undertones of ginger flowers, bacon fat, cured meat and barnyard funk. It was full-bodied, with nice medium acidity to complement. The high level of bold and grippy tannin made it difficult to enjoy right now. It left a medum-long finish of dark cherries, coffee and dried violets flavours. This McLaren Vale Shiraz was aromatically lifted, for the slightly cooler climate at Yangarra Estate with the use of 50% whole berries and 20% whole bunches in fermentation. The use of oak was modest with 20% new, and 80% used French oak. It would be interesting to revisit this tannic beast in five years of time.
Excellent wine with blackberries, blueberries, spice, black pepper and floral notes. Medium plus finish and concentrated. Should drink well for another 5 plus years.

This wine has started to hit its straps but still needs another few years to fully integrate. The oak is great quality however it is still sticking out a touch and the fruit is held pretty tight. I do think this will get better, it opened up with air and is good drinking for those that like to drink them early. drink 2019-2026.
P: Med, poss MF, body; ALMOST swtish frt QUICKLY met by an astringent pucker which slowly progresses into a LONG, very slightly tangy, very, VERY slightly bitterish finish. NEEDS cellaring through '19, I'd guess, but would SEEM to have the frt for that! (Tasted @ $32, their tasting day "special" of $22.50 showing, at least to me, just HOW skewed $32 was.) [As of mid May '20, wine-searcher still shows 1 source @ $22].
Note: 1st tasted on 11/26/16.

P: MF, poss Full, body; Almost swtish frt met by an astringent pucker which at least somewhat irons itself out by the very LONG, dustily tannic finish. NEEDS through '18, then drinking for the ff'ing 3 yrs... min? Might wind up being a STEAL @ the tasted $19.95 price! [As of mid Apr '20, wine-searcher still shows 1 source @ $22]
I felt this had all the earmarks of an Aussie Shiraz.

Nice value. Not offensive in any way, and not enlightening either.

Lotsa pepper, with a bit off early fruit. Dry and thinner than most shiraz. Great wine!

Some chocolate on nose. Dense fruit with prominent acidity that should give it some shelf life. Distinct Syrah pepper notes. Nicely put together.

Lots of structure, but lacking fruit. It almost seems like it's in a dumb faze. Big tannins, but no fruit.
